PublisherForever Entertainmenthasreleased a new trailerfor Front Mission 2: Remake from developer Storm Trident. The trailer confirms the game’s release date on theNintendo Switchas June 12.
Originally released by Squaresoft (nowSquare-Enix) on the first SonyPlayStationin 1997, Front Mission 2 never left Japan during is original run. It was a sequel to the originalFront Mission, a game that is already no stranger to remakes and rereleases. The first game started out as a Japanese Super Famicom release before getting versions for the WonderSwan Color and PS1. Years later, the first Front Mission would see a port to the Nintendo DS, which is the version that has finally received a western release. Forever Entertainment and Storm Trident had announced last year that they would be remaking the first two Front Mission games, as well as bringing them worldwide to the Nintendo Switch. Front Mission 1st: Remake debuted on November 30 of last year.

The trailer, released with other information from Forever Entertainment, lays out the base-story content and features for the remade game. As with most other games in the series, Front Mission 2 is a tactical RPG, with players commanding Wanzers — mecha suits battling it out in a futuristic, war-torn environment. Forever Entertainment’s description for the game highlights this game’s story as taking place 12 years after the end of the previous entry, opening on August 24, 2025, a date that coincides with the forthcoming release. The trailer shows off the tactical Wanzer battles, as well as features like the remastered graphics and effects, and the camera’s new ability to zoom in on the renewed details of the mecha in this refreshed version. The publisher also promises improved load times, new coloring and camouflage options, a renewed soundtrack, and support for many new languages in this worldwide release.
The last entry in the Front Mission franchise prior to these remakes was the much-maligned spin-off gameLeft Alivein 2019. Prior to that, the only other release had been Front Mission Evolved, which came out nearly a decade earlier. Releasing the remakes of the first two games, including Front Mission 2 getting its first English release ever, represents hope for the series to get back to its roots and its audience.
