One of the most well-known mods to enable stalkers in Final Fantasy XIV has been taken down.
Square Enix has sent a cease and desist letter to the developers of PlayerScope, a third-party plugin for Final Fantasy XIV that takes advantage of asecurity and privacy vulnerabilitythat has existed in the game since the launch of the most recent expansion, Dawntrail, which changed how the game’s blacklist function works.

The news comes from a message on the mod’s Discord server, which was shared on the game’sSubreddit.
Square Enix firstthreatened the developer with legal actionearlier this year, and now they’ve followed through on their threat.

Apologizing For Getting Too “Comfortable”
During the most recent of the Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer LIVE livestream, director and producer Naoki “YoshiP” Yoshida apologized forthe issues the game has been grappling with lately.
“I’ve been feeling that our quality of service has declined recently,” he said, and that there have been “too many bugs that we need to have an emergency maintenance or hotfix for.”

He says that the team as a whole has gotten “used to things a bit too much and got comfortable.”
We grew bigger and processes didn’t fully work the way we had intended them to, we want to improve this again. Especially with the new and big content we have recently released, this was difficult. We want to keep providing fun and engaging content, and we will strive to do better. – YoshiP

Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.2 Is Adding QoL Feature Fans Have Begged For Since Launch
After years of fans begging for mercy, Final Fantasy XIV’s Patch 7.2 update is finally going to make wiping to bosses less frustrating.
This isn’t just about the issues with the new blacklist. Despite still pulling strong numbers, general sentiment in the community has been that Final Fantasy XIV has been decliningever since the launch of Dawntrail, and the problems in the recentChinese launch of the mobile versionhaven’t helped the situation.

Regarding the security vulnerability, while PlayerScope has been taken down, there are still other stalker-enabling mods out there, and always will be, especially if they don’t fix the problems with the blacklist.
Still, if anyone has experiencepulling games out of downward spirals, it’s YoshiP and his team, so hopefully they can get out of their complacency and get back up to the quality standard established by past expansion packs like Shadowbringers and Endwalker.
