America’s fastest ‘Family’ is all set to amp up the action to eleven with the upcomingFast Xsequel. The eleventh and as of now final installment of theFast & Furiousfranchise will reportedly begin filming in 2025 after several delays and is scheduled to release in 2026, twenty-five years after the first film came out.

Vin Diesel

Fast Xhas already teased the return of Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs after Johnson and series star Vin Diesel had a falling out on the sets ofFate of the Furious. The stars have reportedly put the past behind them and Johnson may just return for a full-fledged part in the finale. So, does that mean John Cena’s Jakob Toretto will clash with Hobbs?

Who Will Star In The UpcomingFast XSequel?

TheFast & Furiousfranchise has had several stars over the years. Beginning withVin Dieseland Paul Walker, the franchise has expanded since its fifth film not just in scale but also in stars attached. Actors like Kurt Russell, Brie Larson, Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron, and more have appeared in the franchise in full-fledged roles.

Of course, one cannot have a family dinner without the head of the table. Vin Diesel is all set to return as Dominic Toretto for what is in all intentions his last time. The actor expressed how hard it was to keep going with the franchise as they had to create new storylines and mythologies to amp up the scale with each installment.

Diesel opened up about the painstaking process of developing theFast & Furiousfranchise in an interview withVariety,

You know what gets harder? The work off-screen. The thinking, the expanding. There’s a reason why [J.R.R.] Tolkien stopped writing after a while. Because it’s so hard to continue mythologies. Nobody thinks about it in that context, but it’s real. It’s not the easiest thing in the world.

Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson

Apart from him, the usual suspects who are sure to make appearances are Michelle Rodriguez as Letty, Jordana Brewster as Mia, Tyrese Gibson as Roman, and Ludacris as Tej Parker. But there are sure to be some surprises in the cast list once the film gets closer to its release date.

While Jason Momoa had plenty of fun as the antagonist Dante Reyes inFast X, it was rumored that a new villain will be appearing inFast X Part 2(viaComic Book). Vin Diesel reportedly mentioned that he wanted Robert Downey Jr. to play the antagonist in the finale and teased the character as the ‘antithesis to Dom’ (viaVariety).

Dwayne Johnson Will Return As Luke Hobbs InFast X Part 2

Dwayne Johnsonjoined theFast & Furiousfranchise as Luke Hobbs inFast Five. TheMoanastar became a worthy nemesis for Vin Diesel’s Dominic and pursued (and helped) the gang in multiple films. He even got his own spinoff film,Hobbs & Shawwhich saw him fight Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw. The film was directed by David Leitch.

However, Johnson exited the franchise afterFate of the Furiousafter he reportedly clashed on set with Diesel. The actor mentioned that he was done with the franchise and had called out the then-unnamed actor as the reason for his departure. Diesel and Johnson addressed the feud various times in the years following his exit (viaTHR).

John Cena in Fast X

However, while the Rock was probably done with the franchise, theFast & Furiousfilms were not done with him as he agreed to do a cameo inFast X. Johnson reprised his role as Hobbs in the mid-credits scene of the film, which set up an eventual clash between him and Jason Momoa’s Dante.

Director Louis Leterrier spoke about the process of getting Johnson onboard toTHR,

We reached out to Dwayne and his team, and said, ‘Just come and watch the movie. You have to love the movie first.’ So he came to see the movie and really loved it, and then we started talking. It was very smooth, and frankly, as a fan, I could not conceive of continuing the franchise without either Dwayne or Gal Gadot.

While Johnson has been confirmed to appear inFast X Part 2, it is not clear how much of a role he will have in the finale. However, he is slated to appear in a standalone film that will reportedly not exactly be a sequel toHobbs & Shawnor will it be a sequel toFast X(viaTHR).

Will John Cena And Dwayne Johnson Clash On Screen?

John Cenaand Dwayne Johnson already clashed once this year atWrestleMania XL. While fans never got to see them go at it in the DCEU, they hoped for Cena and the Rock to hash it out in theFast & Furiousfinale. There is, however, one small problem. Cena’s Jakob Toretto is dead, after sacrificing himself to help his brother Dominic.

Still, nobody ever really dies in theFast & Furiousfranchise. Fans saw Gal Gadot return as Giselle inFast Xafter she very clearly died inFast & Furious 6. Even Michelle Rodriguez died and came back as Letty in the fourth film. Death is only just a stepping stone to character development in the franchise.

Cene is reportedly counting on the franchise’s Lazarus Pit as he hoped to return in theFast Xsequel. He said in an interview withClub Shay Shay,

I would be in The Fast and the Furious as long as they would have me because it’s an action movie about cars. So that franchise I’m a fan of. To be invited in is awesome. But, uh, I did have a pretty big fiery wreck in the last one. I know that they have a reputation for resurrecting characters. I hope I made it. They didn’t have a funeral for me, so I’m okay. I’m okay. But I hope I made it. I hope I can do the next one.

Fans too would surely love for Cena to return and clash with Johnson’s Hobbs, making it a nice WWE reunion. That sounds cheesy enough for theFast & Furiousfilms.

Vin Diesel Promised A Proper Goodbye To Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner

A host of familiar faces have expressed interest or have been rumored to appear inFast X Part 2. Gal Gadot’s Giselle was teased inFast Xand might have a larger role in the sequel. Alan Ritchson, who played Agent Aimes inFast Xexpressed interest in returning for the sequel (viaEW).

However, Vin Diesel promised fans that there would be one character who would get a fitting send-off in the finale.Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner began along with Diesel’s Dominic Toretto in the first film but Walker’s passing in 2013 led to a premature exit for the character inFurious 7.

“He’s gonna be waiting an eternity for that phone call”: Fast X Star Gets Trolled for ‘Morbius 2’ Comment

Diesel mentioned toGamesRadarthat the finale would have an official goodbye for the character.

That moment in 2013 when the world was struggling with his loss, the studio made a very bold and righteous, and daring decision to keep Brian O’Conner alive. I will give you this without spoiling anything: I couldn’t imagine this saga ending without truly saying goodbye to Brian O’Conner.

Walker’s final appearance in 2015’sFurious 7and it was a posthumous release.
