However, with massive popularity comes heavy backlash because members of the Otaku community feel like the manga artist took a shortcut by copy-pasting Zero-Two’s character design to his series character, Power.

This led to the title’s popularity getting some heat fromDarling in the Franxx’sfandom. To save the new-gen series from further criticism, he came to their rescue as he cleared the doubt that the fans have developed over the two characters.

Tatsuki Fujimoto’sChainsaw Manhas gained immense fame due to its unique plot and art style. The mangaka’s different approach to his protagonist, where he chose not to make him the strongest individual in theCSMuniverse, makes it so loved.

Hence, the readers of the show were eagerly waiting for the manga to get animated. When the anime adaptation debuted in October 2022, it was praised by most but also caused some controversy because a significant portion of the Otaku community thought that Power, a friend who worked with Denji, was plagiarized from another classic series calledDarling in the Franxx.

However, Hiromi Wakabayashi, the creative director of the 2018 series, felt otherwise. During an exclusive interview withAristocrat, he was asked to give his opinion on the two characters looking identical in nature.

Wakabayashi-Sensei shared his thoughts, where he stated that he is not too familiar with the character, but judging from what he has seen on social media, he noticed that both of them have“long pink hair and horns.”Thus canceling out the allegations of copy-pasting the character. He said,

zero two

I am not familiar with the character “Power” as I’ve only recently read the first chapter of “Chainsaw Man”. However, from what I’ve seen on social media, the only resemblance I can see is that she has long pink hair and horns, and to that extent, I don’t think I can say there’s much influence here.

He concluded by mentioning how in the history of anime, a number of characters have featured the same traits and even gave an example to prove his point. He said,

A still from Chainsaw Man.

There are many characters with horns in the history of Japanese anime. For example, Lum from “Urusei Yatsura”.

With the official turning down the silly allegations of the mangaka copying the character design, the series continues to be a wild ride, as the manga flaunts itsunique art style with its Devilsthat will give nightmares to its readers.

There are things that I thought of from the start, as well as things that I added later. When I was creating Chainsaw Man, I didn’t have specific plans to bring payoff to the meaningful-sounding words and things that felt “off.”

He added that the parts that felt vague in season 1 would make it easier for him to focus on the second part, which would make things easier for him.

There are more things that I left vague in order to make the second part easier to do. Because of that, there are tons of things that I wasn’t able to pick up.
