Ryan Reynolds’ introduction to the superhero realm wasn’t exactly amusing. Not long after playing Deadpool in one of the lowest-ratedX-Menentries,X-Men Origins: Wolverine, in 2011, the actor starred as Hal Jordan in the live-actionGreen Lanternmovie. Despite having a huge budget, the movie was criticized for its choppy CGI, especially the suit, which was done entirely in CGI, and the apparent plans of branding it as the first DCEU entry were scrapped.

While Reynolds was able to recoup from his Deadpool debacle, the Lanterns are yet to make their way back to the big screen, and fans have now taken matters into their own hands.
FanmadeGreen LanternFilm Marks Improvement Over Ryan Reynolds’ Suit
Made on a budget of $200M, 2011’sGreen Lanternbecame a commercial disappointment, which madearound $220Mduring its theatre run. As a result, the IP has been sitting on ice since, but fortunately, fans will finally get to see theLanternsreturn in the new DCU, led byJames Gunnand Peter Safran. But before Gunn and co. get things running on the IP, fans have taken matters into their own hands with aGreen Lanternfan film, which is coming soon.

While fan films have always been a thing, following the production level of this project, and last year’sSpider-Man: Lotus, fan films with high cinematic production values might become the new norm.

Furthermore, fans will hope the upcoming fan film will not drop the ball likeLotus, which not only was criticized for its narrative but found itselfamidst controversyfor its director and lead.
James Gunn Sheds Light on Scrapped DCEULanternsProject
Before Gunn and Safran cleaned the house to make room for the new DCU, there was anotherLanternsproject in work in the DCEU, which would’ve starred Finn Wittrock.

On asked about the project’s fate, Gunn clarified that he wasn’t aware the project was set in the DCEU, and stressed that“[Wittrock]he’ll be okay!”despite the project falling off.
He said (viaThreads):
I didn’t think it was in the DCEU, but it was before my time. That said, I think Finn’s a talented guy and he’ll be okay! Writers, directors, actors have projects fall through every day. We’ve all had it happen many times. It’s not being ‘done dirty’, it’s a part of the job.
Considering fans have been imploring for the Lanterns to be done justice, with DCU finally getting the ball running on the IP, and the fan film looking promising, things are looking good for Lanterns fans.
