In a game where player freedom is of the utmost importance, making certain in-game choices can sometimes feel daunting. One of those difficult decisions just so happens to be the very first one you will make! Immediately after starting a new save-file inElden Ring, you will pick between one of 10 classes. Unfortunately, deciding on a class also means deciding on a general playstyle to stick with for yourentireplaythrough.

Butdon’tdespair, because luckily there are many things we can do to better tailor our character to our preferences. This guide will go in-depth on the Confessor, and how to best optimize your build.

Base Stats

The Confessor actually has one of thehigheststarting levels in the game, which quickly makes him a candidate for many players. Almost every base stat is decently leveled up, except for Intelligence and Arcane.

Intelligence

So while the Confessor excels in most areas, it should beimmediatelyclear that his/her area of expertise is in Faith andStrength. For those looking to play a more well-rounded version of the prophet, the Confessor is the obvious candidate.

Starting Loadout

In yet another win for the Confessor, every piece of gear he begins with is viable. This includes even the base armor, which is terrible for almostevery other classin the game. The full set includes both great physical and magic resistance, and should only be dropped later on after finding somethingtrulybetter.

Likewise, both the Broadsword and the Heater Shield are pretty effective at doing their job, and can be used for the first several hours of gameplay. Although, keep in mind that there are some better alternatives to both items pretty early on in the game.

The starting incantations, (Assassin’s Approach and Urgent Heal), are useful in their respective situations, but realistically won’t be used too much. It is recommended to utilize Assassin’s approach and go for back-stabs when facing more challenging enemies.

The Finger Seal gets the job done very well, and there isno urgencyin finding a replacement until later in the game.

Important Gear

One of the first things you are going to want to do as the Confessor is to unlock the Round Table Hold. This is doneimmediatelyafter making your first attempt at defeatingMargit, whether you defeat him or not. Once the Round Table Hold is unlocked, a prophet can be found leaning against the wall. Speak with him for alargeinventory of faith-basedincantationsavailable for purchase.

Elden Ring:Hidden Areas You Probably Missed

While every incantation he sells is valuable, both Catch Flame and Flame Sling are going to be the most beneficial to your early game. With a starting Faith stat of 14, you should be able to use both incantations immediately. A major draw of playing as the Confessor is that he/she has very balanced, high starting stats. This means that you should be able to use a majority of the items you come acrosswithout too much needfor leveling up. That is, of course, except for intelligence-based items.

Leveling Up

The Confessor is best when played as a hybrid class between Pyromancer and whatever other class of your choosing. Try to make Faith-based incantations the main focus of your build, and level up anything else of your choosing as the backup. It is highly recommended to consider making a Faith/Strength/Stealth build, as that seems to be the most effective combination. However, keep in mind that putting any runes into Intelligence is extremely ill-advised. This is atruly awfultactic, and will only result in making both your Faith incantations and Intelligence spells redundant.

How To Play

As previously mentioned, there isa lotof leeway in how you choose to play as the Confessor. The Confessor does however excel at stealth attacks so, however you decide to play, make sure to throw those in there.
