It’s no mystery at this point thatElden Ringis brimming with breathtaking, unimaginable, and awe-inspiring content for players to discover. Players could easily get lost in the game’s multi-layered open-world, ending up in an epic boss battle or wandering through one of the carefully crafted dungeons in the game, discovering hidden paths and solving mind-bending puzzles. While there are some excitingpuzzlesin Elden Ring, such as discovering a false wall or working your way around a contraption, one set of puzzles that stands out in particular are thepainting puzzlesscattered across theLands Between.

These puzzles themselves don’t provide you with any helpful information other than showing you a specific location in the paintings, and it’s up to you to figure out what it all means. So if you’re stuck trying to solve these puzzles, you’re in luck. This guide lists all seven painting puzzle locations, their respective solutions, and the rewards for solving them.
Painting Puzzle #1 - Homing Instinct - Limgrave
TheHoming Instinct painting puzzlecan be found in an artist’s shack inLimgrave. To mark the exact location on your map, refer to the image below. The painting depicts a grave site overlooking a tree through a ruined arch.
To solve the puzzle, head south ofDragon-Burnt RuinsnearAgheel Lake. Once again, refer to the image below to mark the location on your map. There’s also aSeaside Ruins Grace pointnearby. If you’ve already discovered it, you can fast travel directly to the location to solve the painting.
When you arrive at the location, you’ll find aphantom sitting in a chairand looking at the gravestones. Approach the phantom, and it will vanish, dropping the Incantation Scarabhelm. Wearing the helm reduces FP cost but increases damage taken.

Painting Puzzle #2 - Prophecy - Stormveil Castle
For the next painting puzzle, you will need to travel toStormveil Castle, and the painting is located in a room near theLiftside Chamber Grace point. Exit the Grace point room into the open area that is guarded by over 15+ enemies. You can either sprint your way to the room and interact with the puzzle or take out the enemies before examining the painting. Beware, there’s anOmenin the area that can be really difficult to deal with, especially if you’re under-leveled. Refer to the image below for the exact location of the painting room.
The solution to the puzzle lies all the way south ofLimgravein theWeeping Peninsula. You’ll need to visit theChurch of Pilgrimagenorthwest of Weeping Peninsula. The exact location is marked in the image below.
As you go around the church and towards the cliff, a phantom in the chair will appear again, overlooking the waterfall in the distance. Approaching the phantom will cause it to disappear while dropping theWarhawk Ashes spirit summon.
Painting Puzzle #3 - Resurrection - East Liurnia
The Resurrection painting puzzle is located inEast Liurnianear theCarian Study Hall grace point.The painting is again in anArtist’s Shack,the location of which is marked in the image below.
Interact with the painting and head to the next locationnorthwest of Liurnianear theCaria Manorto solve the puzzle. Once you reach the location marked in the image below, you’ll find a phantom in a chair in the middle of the graveyard. Approach the phantom to cause it to disappear and collect theJuvenile Scholar Cap, Juvenile Scholar Robe, and a Larval Tear.However, keep in mind that this location is only available after you defeat theRoyal Knight Loretta, who can be really challenging depending on your level.
Painting Puzzle #4 - Redmane - Caelid
To find the Redmane painting puzzle, you’ll need to visit the dangerous land ofCaelid, specifically the town of Sorcery calledSellia. The nearest Grace point to this location isSellia Under-Stair. Enter the Sellia town via the main stairs and take the first right as you reach the first platform. As you turn right in the street, you’ll spot an archway. Before you cross the archway, look to your left to find theRedmane painting puzzleunder some debris. Beware of the phantom mages in the area, who will make your life difficult by overwhelming you with magic attacks.
To solve the puzzle, you’ll need to gonortheast of Caelidnear theMinor Erd TreeinGreyoll’s Dragonbarrow. However, you’ll need to do some fair bit of platforming near the edge of a cliff. The location for the painting puzzle solution is marked below.
After you carefully platform your way to the bottom, you’ll find a phantom figure overlooking the ruins in the desert. Approach the phantom and wait for it to disappear, then collect theRain of Arrows Ashes of War.

Painting Puzzle #5 - Flightless Bird - Leyndall
Next up is theFlightless Bird painting puzzle, located on the first floor of theFortified Manorin Lyndall. The closest Grace point to this location is theWest Capital Rampart. Make your way into the manor and as you reach the end, you’ll spot a doorway leading you to a dining area. The dining area further leads you to the study room. There is a Grace point here as well as the Flightless Bird painting puzzle.
To solve the puzzle, you’ll need to travel north of Lyndall toDominula, Windmill Village. The exact location is marked on the image below.
Head towards the windmill and past the people dancing around the fire. As you approach the cliff, you’ll spot the phantom overlooking theHighway Lookout Tower. Again, the phantom will disappear as you approach it, and drop theFire’s Deadly Sin incantation.
Painting Puzzle #6 - Champion’s Song - Shaded Castle
If you’ve already discovered theShaded Castle Rampart Grace point, you may easily fast travel to this location. From there, turn around and stick to the east castle wall as you make your way through to the painting’s location. Once you see the broken wall to your left, jump down and collect any loot if you’d like. Then, look for a path underneath the wooden staircase to reach the staircase itself. Go up the staircase to find theChampion’s Song painting puzzle. The location is marked in the image below for your convenience.
The solution to the puzzle can be foundoutside the Lyndall capital wallto the northwest. Refer to the image below to know the exact location you need to be at.
However, be careful when riding to this location as there’s a dragon in this area. Approach the phantom on the cliff and collect theHarp Bow. Additionally, defeating the dragon in this area will also reward you with theLansseax’s Glaive.

Painting Puzzle #7 - Sorcerer - Castle Sol
The final painting puzzle is located in theMountaintop of the GiantsinCastle Sol. Finding this painting can be quite challenging as you will have to make your way through some enemies and archers. The key here is to keep running without stopping and stick to the following guide:
