In a recent statement that was shared byEuro Gamer,Electronic Artsrejected the rumors about putting an end to the physical distribution of games in German-speaking countries. The publisher called the reports “inaccurate,” reassuring gamers that the company will still continue to launch physical games in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.

German outletGames Wirtschaftrecently claimed in a report that EA Deutschland has confirmed in a financial report that the company will no longer continue to distribute physical games in German-speaking countries due to the lack of interest in the physical edition of games among gamers compared to digital editions.

That being said, physical distribution still has a significant share in the market, despite probably standing behind digital sales for most companies. Some titles from Electronic Arts such as the FIFA series which has a huge player base in Europe do seem to get hurt financially by such a decision, which makes the report sound unlikely to be true.

Hopefully, it didn’t take long for EA to release a statement about the spreading rumors around the matter, calling the reports inaccurate and ensuring fans that the physical distribution will continue in German-speaking countries of Europe. The statement reads:

We have not stopped physical distribution of our games in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland and players will continue to be able to buy our games from retailers across the region. Recent reports stating otherwise are an inaccurate reflection of disclosures made in EA Germany’s statutory financial statements.

Electronic Arts' next big launch for this year is Need For Speed Unbound which will be available both digitally and physically onDecember 2. Over a month after that, the publisher will launchDead Space Remakein January 2023.

Prior to the releases above, the company is expected to launch the FIFA World Cup 2022 expansion forFIFA 23, which will be available as a free update. Regarding the fact that EA and FIFA will not be cooperating with each other again, this might be the last licensed FIFA World Cup event in the FIFA series, which will be rebranded toEA Sports FCnext year.
