Despite the recent announcement that it would belaying off up to 400 employees, EA Sports will continue to control the rights to the F1 series until at least 2027.

The series has received mixed reviews from fans over recent iterations due to its microtransactions, repetitive gameplay and strange features which have never been requested by fans.

Examples include the F1 World hub was widely criticized forintroducing in-game items such as sofa cushions and table lamps, while the new reversed tracks introduced with F1 25 were something that no serious player ever thought of requesting from the developers.

The contract between EA, Codemasters and F1 was originally signed back in 2019, with EA and Codemasters working jointly on the projects up until F1 25.

A New Dawn or The Same Old Story?

A representative from EA confirmed with Insider Gaming that the deal had been renewed for a further two years, which we can assume will mean that EA will keep producing the series as it has done in years prior.

It seems thatan extension clause has been triggered and that EA will retain control for another two years, though whether or not Codemasters will continue to be involved remains to be seen.

Prior to the announcement, there was some speculation among fans that iRacing could potentially take over the series, leading to a muchmore realistic and sim-like experience.

It seems that EA could be cashing in on the fact that the new F1 movie starring Brad Pitt releases this year, which is likely to drive up interest in the sport and the game series if it is as popular as anticipated.

What does this mean for the F1 series and players as a whole? It’s not certain. We could be on the verge of a revolution in which many errors of the past are corrected, or we could be seeing the slow death of F1 games, much likethe FIFA series, which has now morphed into EA FC.
