Every four years is a leap year. Pretty common knowledge, right? It’s once every four years and includes one extra day in the year, which falls on February 29th. But it apparently slipped the minds ofEA Sports WRCdevelopers,Codemasters.

EA Sports WRC, which was released on November 3rd, 2023, forPlayStation 5,Xbox Series X|S, andPC, was completely unplayable yesterday due to the fact that it was February 29th. As most ‘normal’ years only have 28 days in February, it looks like Codemasters forgot to tell EA Sports WRC that February 29th does exist every now and then.

These Constant Layoffs Are Going To Make Games Worse In The Coming Years

The consequences of mass layoffs will be felt in the years to come.

As a result, players were booting up EA Sports WRC only to have it immediately crash on the game’s homepage. Fanstook to the WRC subredditto question what was going on, to which EA Sports WRC’s social media manager was quick to respond. While EA didn’t specify what was causing the issue, the guidance on how to fix it said all we needed to know.

Starfield - Player in front of dual planets

EA Support prompted users to change the date and time settings on their consoles to March 1st to rectify the issue, saying that the game “should function normally” after players do so. As you can imagine, players didn’t take it easy on the developers. The replieswere filled with, “Y’all really forgot leap years were a thing, huh?” and “This is just embarrassing.”

While EA did say it was investigating the issue, and did give players detailed instructions on how to change the date and time on their respective consoles, there has been no update on the matter since. Now that we’re officially in March, players will likely have to correct the date and time on their consoles and just pretend that this never happened.

EA Sports

Fans were quick to mock EA for a simple mistake that anybody could make, but it wasn’t the only game to have an issue because of yesterday’s date. Theatrhythm Final Bar Line, a rhythm game developed by indieszero and published by Square Enix, was also unplayable yesterday.

Auser on the game’s subredditquestioned whether or not their save was corrupted after being greeted with a never-ending black screen. Again, users quickly realized that the issue was tied to the date, so changing it would rectify the issue.

We’ll see you again in 2028 for the same issue, probably!
