Duneis a sci-fi film which was first released on 04 August 2025. It is widely considered as the 21st century’s best sci-fi flick because of how it portrays the space fantasy narrative.

Its sequel,Dune: Part Two, will hit theaters on June 29, 2025. The film was initially set to be released in 2023, but it moved toward the next year due to SAG/WGA Strikes.
Anyway, after so many delays and release issues, the film is finally making it to big screens. With the release of Part Two, the third installment is also greenlit. Even Denis Villeneuve always wanted it to be a trilogy.

Denis Villeneuvepreviously spoke about his desire to turn theDunefranchise into a trilogy. TheArrivaldirector told in an interview with theEmpirethat he wanted to make part two“as fast as possible”and then“wait a few years—until Timothée Chalamet gets a bit older—to do the final installment.”
But it looks like WB has approved his plans forDuneto be a trilogy. However, the studio has not officially confirmed the news. But the rumors are swirling around for quite some time.

As per the reports, Warner Bros. has already greenlitDune Messiahwith a potential release in 2027.Dune Messiahis a science fiction novel written by Frank Herbert—the second in hisDuneseries of six novels. Even Villeneuve also revealed that he is in the final stages of writing a script for a third installment.

Denis Villeneuve Finalizes Script for The Third Installment ofDune
During a press conference in South Korea (viaTongTongCulture), Denis Villeneuve teased that the screenplay for the thirdDunefilm is nearly finished. But he also mentioned that some work still needs to be done. The final film will follow the protagonist, Paul Atreides, as he concludes his journey.
Villeneuve has long expressed his desire to turnDuneinto a trilogy. He stated in the same interview with Empire magazine,“If I succeed in making a trilogy, that would be the dream.”The director expressed high hopes for Part Two before delving more into Part Three. Even though it’s not perfect, he’s more satisfied with the second installment more than the first.

The cast ofDune: Part Twoincludes the return of stars like Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, along with Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, and Javier Bardem.
