A Place To Call Home
In order to get a home, you’ll first need to make your way to Vernworth. While this isn’t terribly far into the game, it will be several hours before you get to Vernworth and pick up the necessary quest.Until then, you’ll need to spend your money staying at inns on your journey.Keep in mind that if you get into trouble, you may have to start your save file from your last save at an inn. So, even though it can be costly, it’s always worth staying at an inn when you may.
Meeting Mildred
Fortunately, Mildred isn’t hiding and you hardly have to seek her out. As you run around Vernworth, she’ll flag you down to ask for a favor.She needs someone to watch her place while she goes on a trip for a week.It’s a pretty sweet deal. It doesn’t cost you anything, and you have a place to stay for the week.In order to move to the next stage of the quest, you’ll need to meet Mildred at the house, which will be marked on your map once you set “A Place To Call Home” as your priority quest.
For the purposes of saving your game and potentially starting your save from the last inn save, your home will count as saving at an inn. So, if you get into a tough spot and need to restart from your last inn save, your home will count, even before you own it. Since staying at your home is free, you should save there as often as possible.
House-Sitting For A Week
This part of the quest is extremely easy. Just make yourself at home. Come and go as you please.There’s no downside or work involved, so use Mildred’s home to your heart’s content.
Purchasing Mildred’s Home
After you’ve spent a week in Mildred’s home, she’ll return to Vernworth. She enjoyed her trip so much that she wants to sell her home and move away from Vernworth.She’ll offer you the home at the cost of 20,000 gold.This is the part of the quest you really want to be prepared for. Be sure you’ve saved enough gold to purchase the home from Mildred, and you’ll be golden.
Once you purchase Mildred’s home, you’ll see the symbol of a house appear on your map and mini-map. This will help you navigate to your home from anywhere in Vernworth.

We’ve already talked about how this will save you a lot of gold over the course of your playthrough, but it’s worth reiterating here.In addition to that, NPCs will occasionally stop by and leave gifts at your door.People you’ve helped tend to like you, and they are pretty generous. So, always check to the right of your door to see if you have any gifts waiting for you.In addition to being able to sleep in your home, you’ll also be able to access your storage. And finally, if you happen to love a good achievement, you’ll receive “A House? In This Economy?” for purchasing Mildred’s home.
Unfortunately, there’s no real way to customize or decorate this home. It’s purely a functional base of operations where you may sleep in a bed and organize your storage. It’s extremely useful.
