ThroughoutDragon’s Dogma 2, players have the ability to take on pawns to help them on their adventures to make Capcom’s latest high-fantasy role-playing world a little easier to navigate. Up until now, players had been under the illusion that their mainpawnswere happily being hired by other online players and off on wild quests while they rested at an Inn, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Capcom has apparently integrated a “fake player” system that hires your pawn when no one else will, leaving many dragon slayers a little bewildered.

Dragon’s Dogma 2: Complete Guide & Walkthrough

The time has come, Arisen, to meet your destiny in Dragon’s Dogma 2!

No one likes the feeling of being the one who has no mates to help them out, do they? Unfortunately, Capcom’s “fake” pawn hiring system certainly won’t make you feel any more confident about that, I’m afraid. But, at least they care enough about wanting to keep your pawn in employment and gold in your pockets. We all have RedditorMrFoxerto thank fordrawing our attentionto the fact that the game will create a “fake player” who hires out your main pawn when it isn’t getting any love from real players.

Although players will still earn Rift Crystals when this happens, so it’s not all bad news, there is an easy way to spot if your pawn has gone into the game’s system. When checking out the player’s report card, if you see that their name is grayed out, then this means your pawn has been “fake hired”. Thankfully, even when your pawn is taken on this way, it can still do everything a real player can do like return gifts to you, give ratings and also complete given quests.

Even though Capcom has highlighted this information in theirFAQs(does anyone ever really read these?) some Dragon’s Dogma 2 players were shocked to discover that instead of feeling like their pawns were being taken on grand excursions, they instead slipped into the darkness of Capcom’s underworld.

“Is that for real? If so, then I just got like 5 rentals with grayed out profiles at once.“Godz_Baneexclaimed in the thread. “I don’t need to know this” repliedr34_nuxia, while poorsarcophagusGravelordsadly stated, “My poor pawn is being hired even less than I thought then 😞 he is kind of an asshole though, so I guess I can’t blame anyone.”

“Well that’s nice but also kinda sad since no one wants to actually use our Pawn” saiddirkx48

All in all, and even if it is a little sad, it’s a good way to keep players active, especially if they don’t have any friends who play Dragon’s Dogma 2, or there just so happens to be fewer players online at the time. Also, Capcom keeping pawns in employment is still better than much of the game industry, so there’s that too.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Camping Kits Are Confusing Players

Maybe Capcom should have bragged about this feature a little bit more.
