Square Enix’s latest RPG remake has proven to be quite a success. Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is now confirmed to be a multi-million seller in less than a month after its release.
In a press release, Square Enix mentions that Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake has sold over two million units worldwide through shipments and digital downloads. No platform breakdown was revealed, which is understandable since publishers rarely share that information.

Now, Square Enix can also look at the game as a commercial success. While two million units sold might not seem a lot compared to Call of Duty or other AAA games, for a remade RPG that was initially released way, way back in 1988? Yeah, that’s a lot. It’s also worth noting that JRPG’s aren’t as big nowadays as before, which makes this victory a tad sweeter for Square Enix.

This sales milestone is good news for Square Enix, after Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’salleged poor sales performance. Mind you, releasing on other platforms outside of the PS5 could have helped, and even the game’s directorwants it to happen.
