Piccolo’s Neglect:Dragon Ball DAIMAadds to his legacy of underrated moments
WithDAIMA‘s premiere, Toei carries forward Akira Toriyama’s lasting legacy, ensuring it lives on forever. The anime follows the story of Goku in the nebulous Demon Realm before he and the rest ofDragon Ball‘s cast find themselves transformed into mini-kid versions of themselves.
For decades, the main cast ofDragon Ballhas been well-defined, earning plenty of love from fans for their enduring charm. Goku, in particular, stands out for his strength, purity, and unwavering drive to be the strongest, inspiring generations of kids worldwide.

DAIMAEpisode 12 stands as the series’ best yet, serving as a heartfelt love letter to everyone’s favorite reactionary Saiyan Prince. For the first time in the history of the series, Vegeta has unleashedSuper Saiyan 3.
Dragon Ball DAIMA: The Demon Realm May Give Goku an Impossible Transformation Only Broly Could Achieve
Beyond its iconic Super Saiyan transformations and comedic moments,DAIMAdelves into the origins of the Namekians and their rich history in theDragon Balluniverse.
WhileDAIMApromises to spotlight many sidelined characters, it continues to overlook fan-favoriteNamekian Piccolo, perpetuating his under-appreciation.

Akio Iyoku, executive producer of theDragon Ballfranchise, revealed the true purpose behind creatingDragon Ball Super: Super Hero, shedding light on why Piccolo played such a central role in the film.
Dragon Ball Super: Super Herorecognized the franchise’s heavy reliance on Goku and Vegeta and intentionally sidelined the characters so Piccolo and Gohan could be the stars of the show.

Iyoku revealed that he consulted Akira Toriyama about the next move for Piccolo, which led to the creation ofDragon Ball Super: Super Hero.
By using the Dragon Balls on Earth, Piccolo unlocked a powerful new transformation called “Orange Piccolo,” finally giving the Namekian the recognition he deserved.
Unfortunately, Piccolo’s role inDragon Ball DAIMAisn’t as prominent as inDragon Ball Super: Super Hero, and he once again takes a backseat in the latest installment. However,DAIMAdelves into the demonic origins of the Namekian race, explaining how Piccolo’s people came to inhabit other planets in Universe 7.
WhyDAIMAis accountable for Goku’s worst depiction yet
Even though Mini Goku is physically younger than Kid Goku, there’s no excuse for a 40-year-old Goku to be less mature than a 12-year-old version of himself. On top of that, Vegeta and Piccolo are still behaving as they always have, leaving Goku no excuse for his overly annoying and childish behavior.
Nothing about Goku’s character inDragon Ball Zindicates he is as foolish as he is portrayed inDAIMAand the rest of the modernDragon Ball.
“I miss when Vegeta would eat other aliens”: Dragon Ball DAIMA is a Fever Dream for Bulma and Vegeta Fans
DAIMAmay be in the crosshairs today, but it didn’t start the trend of a dumbed-down Goku. This is how modernDragon Ballhas been writing Goku for years now.
The manga does a moderately better job but still suffers from making Goku too simplistic and easy-going. This isn’t about writers who aren’t Akira Toriyama failing to understand Goku, though.
Toei has shifted its focus to a younger audience, which has resulted in the creation of this simplified, “dumbed-down” version ofGoku. Unless major changes happen, we may be stuck with this overly simplistic and foolish Goku for a long time.
Dragon BallSuper:Super HeroandDAIMAare available to stream on Crunchyroll.
