Doom: The Dark Agesis set to release onMay 15th, over 30 years after the original Doom revolutionized the FPS genre.Bethesda Softworksand id Software, have given us a sneak peek of the upcoming game, with a new addition to the Doom universe,The Cosmic Realm.

While the lore of this new world is still shrouded in mystery, we know that it involves anunholy union between Hell and the Cosmic Realm, a place that Game Director Hugo Martin describes as"totally unique for a Doom game".

Thereveal trailer, posted onApril 25th, displayed a dark and intriguing Cosmic Realm with"cyclopean architecture,“as well as brand-new enemies and weapons to wield. The Dark Ages utilizes a new and improved game engine, id Tech 8, which creates “bigger spaces with longer views” and also has dynamic lighting with the use of ray tracing.

Game Director Hugo Martin says"This is the best Doom game we’ve ever made”.

One of the new enemies you’ll encounter in this new world is theCosmic Baron, a twin-bladed monsterthat attacks with a relentless melee fury, or withlong-ranged psionic projectiles.

Another enemy that was revealed is the Cacodemon, ahybrid of the Cosmic Realm and Hell.Gameplay footage showed complex combat mechanics, with Cacodemon usingshield attacks and tentacle strikes.

New powerful enemies mean you’ll need to upgrade your arsenal. Abrand-new weapon has been revealedto help you tackle the creatures of The Cosmic Realm.The Reaver Chainshot, looks incredibly fun to use, and is described as a"brutal ballistic iron mace of death".

The new weapon gives you the option to use alight attack targeting a single enemyby firing quickly, or holding down the trigger tocharge it up and unleash the Chaos Sphere, for powerful long-range strikes.
