After the events ofSpider-Man: No Way Home, fans of the friendly neighborhood superhero are looking forward to the next adventure of Peter Parker. Tom Holland will soon be donning the iconic red-blue suit once again and this time, a super-villain won’t be the only problem he faces. Since he is forgotten by everyone he loves, including MJ and Ned, Peter will have to navigate his way through life alone.

While all of this contributes to a promising storyline, it looks like there might be some bad news for Tom Holland’sSpider-Man 4,according to some sources. We all know thatNo Way Homeset the bar quite high for all the superhero movies that will come after it. Thanks to this, the expectations for the sequel have been higher than ever but it seems as ifSpider-Man 4could be facing a fate similar to that ofMadame Web’s.

While we cannot say for certain what this means, the report has fans in worry.  Fans are calling out Sony for wanting to makeSpider-Man 4a cash grab instead of trying to make a movie that actually shows the essence of Peter Parker. While the audience wants a sweet and simple sequel that focuses on just Peter’s next adventure as Spider-Man, they are worried Sony will want to turn it into yet another multiverse story.

They want NWH cash, Marvel wants a grounded SM movie. If they wanted more cash they’ll have made Sam Raimi’s SM 4 and TASM 3 and not those silly SM spin offs

Sony wants “Spiderman 4” to be another multiversal movie, because they saw how amazing “Spiderman: No way Home” did. And they wanna copy it. But No, Spiderman 4 needs to be a street-level movie. Sony you already did a amazing multiversal movie with Tobey and Andrew

Fans of the superhero universe are concerned that Sony Pictures is on its way to butcherSpider-Man 4just like they did withDakota Johnson’sMadame Web.If fans’ speculations about turning the sequel into a multiverse cash-grab are right, it might be a better idea to just let Holland’s Peter be the main attraction of the upcoming sequel, despite the multiverse angle doing wonders forNo Way Home.

WillSpider-Man 4Go Down theMadame WebRoad?

Johnson made her debut in the superhero universe with S.J. Clarkson’s recently releasedMadame Web. The film is the fourth addition to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe afterVenom, Venom 2,andMorbius.Unfortunately, while there was a ton of hype for the Johnson-starrer, the release did not see positive reviews, neither from fans nor from critics. In fact,Madame Webmanaged to make only $6 million at the box office on its opening day and is projected to reach a meager $20-25 million over six days.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film, which also starsSydney Sweeney, has received an extremely disappointing score of 14% with critics calling it one of the“worst comic book movies”ever made. The Times’ Kevin Maheralso made a bold comment stating thatMadame Websignified the death of the superhero genre. Giving the film one star out of five, Maher said,

“In its sheer mind-boggling awfulness, it represents the death of the superhero genre, the burning of the superhero genre to the ground and then the returning in the middle of the night to piss on the superhero genre’s ashes.”

Yikes! That was harsh! If Sony doesn’t fix its mistakes withSpider-Man 4while there’s still time, we are afraid the sequel could face a similar reception upon its release. Holland’sSpider-Manmovies are nothing short of incredible, it would suck to see the sequel suffer likeMadame Web.

Madame Webis currently playing in theatres.
