Koyoharu Gotouge’sDemon Slayerhas become one of the most wanted Shonen series of the new generation that has taken the world by storm. The series was first released in 2106 and received an anime adaptation, which has become a massive name in the anime industry as well.

The story is set in the Taishō period in Japan, which features great historical accuracy, and next-tier animation quality just added to the popularity of the show. Hence, some members of the Otaku community even called the title the very definition of peak fiction.

However, it looks like Gotouge-Sensei’s magnum opus might not be an original idea, as an influencer shared how the mangaka might have been inspired byFullmetal Alchemist.Though the statement sounds crazy, once the fans see the uncanny resemblance between the two titles, they can’t unsee it for the rest of eternity.

Demon Slayer’sPlot Has an Uncanny Resemblance With Hiromu Arakawa”sFullmetal Alchemist

In the ever-growing world of anime and manga, Hiromu Arakawa’sFullmetal Alchemistis considered to be one of the greatest titles of all time. The story centers around Edward and Alphonse Elric, who were using their knowledge of alchemy to bring back their mother from the dead.

However, disaster strikes as, for the most unknown of reasons, the process is sabotaged and Alphonse Elric loses his body, while Edward sacrifices his right arm to retrieve his brother’s soul and bound it to a suit of armor. The two brothers then embark on a journey to obtain the Philosopher’s Stone to restore his brother’s body.

With a meaningful storyline and hard-hitting dialogues, the series has resonated with the fans; even in 2024, they closely follow the series. However, it looks like the millennial show has an updated title that has made quite a name for itself in recent times.

Recently, an influencer (@wtfaleisa) took to her Instagram, where she explained that the plot ofKoyoharu Gotouge’sDemon Slayerplot has an uncanny resemblance with the millennial title, where the other sibling“got messed up somehow.”

As a result, the entire plot of the show is the one sibling looking for ways to“save the other sibling.”However, that was not all because she gave the example of Gege Akutami’sJJKhaving a resemblance withBleach.

Hence, she jumped to the interesting conclusion that all the popular new-gen series that have made a massive name for themselves were nothing but updated millennial series that were infectiously popular back in the day.

The Otaku Community React to New-Gen Shows Being A Copy of Older Series

Even though the resemblance in the storyline was immensely clear, Tanjiro Kamado joined the Demon Slayer Corps to find a cure for his sister, Nezuko. Though there was a subtle difference in the storyline, as Muzan Kibutsuji, killed everyone in his family, and made Nezuko a demon.

However, fans were unfazed as they shared mixed opinions following the resemblance observed by the influencer. They commented,

@charlotte.likes.food commented,“I mean if you boil down any show to its most barebones plot then yeah you’re gonna find other shows with similarities and that’s true for any form of media not just anime, people take tropes which are popular and rework them into something new but the tropes will still always be reminiscent of shows that came before”

@funkolifamily commented,“Yall understand Shonen is a sub-genre of anime with a basic structure that is closely followed by alot of these shows? Its natural for it to be similar, they have their own nuances that make them unique and thats so extremely common in nearly every television show (example; literally 90% of crime scene dramas like CSI or Law and Order)”

@team_leen commented,“Every anime is based on some show many animes copy dragon ball…”

@mook_hp commented,“I figured that out but either way the shows still fire lol”

@breezy._.snow commented,“Just saying I’m gen z and watched all the “millennial” anime growing up. Fmab, fairy tail, bleach, dragon ball (z and OG) raised me”

@sayla_lu commented,“It’s a repeat story with different seasoning”

Despite featuring a similar storyline, both shows have made an immense name for themselves and aided vehemently in the growth of the anime and manga industry in all these years.
