Dead Island 2has many ways of taking on the undead hordes that you will need to mow down, and a very useful option is your Curveball. These are extremely powerful items that would fill the role of a grenade/throwable item in other games, which is no surprise as a grenade is even one of the Curveball options. If you miss one, you canuse the Fast Travel featureto go back to get it.

You will find yourself using these a lot whenever the horde sees a large volume of enemies that you may take out all at once. A bonus is that you will not need to loot, craft, or purchase these items, as Curveballs work on a cooldown system. This will be very appreciated by players that never use grenades worrying they will waste them before they really need them and miss out on the joys they bring.

10Pipe Bomb

The Pipe Bomb is a Curveball that will be fun to use against the undead hordes early on, but it is a Curveball that will also ultimately be replaced by a different one with more damage or versatility later on in the game.

You throw the Pipebomb and after a short wait, it explodes to take out various zombies that are near it. This Curveball can be acquired by taking it from a yellow case in the Beverly Hills section of the map.

9Sticky Bomb

Another explosive based Curveball, this time around, one that can cling to where ever you want it to firmly stay. The Sticky Bomb can be stuck to walls, ceilings, and even onto zombies it hits. Once stuck, it lets off an explosion after a short delay.

It is sold from a vendor in the Sterling Hotel on the Ocean Avenue portion of the map. This will provide several situational benefits over the Pipe Bomb, but it is not the best explosive Curveball you will find in the game.

8Electric Bomb

This is the first elemental Curveball on this list and the damage type it represents is Shock. When used, it will let out a radius of shock damage against all surrounding enemies. This will be even better when said enemies are wet and will conduct electricity better.

This Curveball will be a reward for completing the Lost & Found quest, “Jo’s Rainy Day Stash”. This list is focusing on Curveball’s own individual merit and not Curveball combos using both slots, otherwise it would have been placed higher up on this list.

7Chem Bomb

The existence of this Curveball completely knocked Flash Bang off this list. Not only does it traumatize zombies just like the Flash Bang does, but it will also give them the Soggy status effect. This means that you can either take advantage of their traumatized state or make use of the Soggy effect with a shock weapon to build up the electrified status.

Furthermore, this Curveball can put out any flames that are impeding you or proving too dangerous to be around. You can pick up this Curveball by heading to the second floor of the Halperin Hotel section of the game map.

6Nail Bomb

The Nail Bomb is a very stylish option to have, and its function makes it a double whammy of a Curveball. Once used it will explode after a short wait, much like the Pipe Bomb and Sticky Bomb, but after it explodes it will also inflict the Bleed status effect on enemies.

Enemies with this status effect will take damage over time, making it easier to mop up stragglers. This Curveball can be found in Apartment 2C in the Ocean Avenue portion of the game map.

5Meat Bait

Meat Bait will release a large bloody mass that will attract zombies to it and away from you. This can be invaluable in a lot of situations where you need to get from point A to point B, but you cannot do that without being killed by a horde of undead zombies.

Once you know where you need to move to, you can use this Curveball to manipulate zombies to make this task easier to accomplish. It can also be used to make the zombies move where you want, such as grouping them around an explosive barrel to take them all out and conserving ammo for later.

4Military Grenade

This is your standard issue grenade option, it’s simple and highly effective. There is no special trick or volleying technique that measures curvature that you’ll need to work on with this. You just throw it directly into the center of where you want there to be a big boom and everything in the range from that point will be hit by its explosion.

Players of FPS games will feel right at home with this staple, large area of effect option. It may seem lackluster compared to other Curveballs, but you cannot argue with its results. You can get this from the side mission “Boz Makes a Bang”.

While the grenade may be a brilliant choice for a big explosion, the Molotov flat-out beats it with its fire damage. Once the zombies are hit by it, the fire will burn away at their health more efficiently than if you go in with just a heavy-hitting arsenal.

It has a wide area that is affected by its impact point and in case you are wondering, yes, it can cause gas canisters to explode as well, resulting in chaining a lot of area damage together. You will get this Curveball during the main story.

2Bait Bomb

This Curveball works similarly to the Curveball listed earlier called Meat Bait. Bait Bomb can lure zombies in just like Meat Baitand the Alexa Controller, however, it will also detonate and take out a lot of zombies in the process.

This can be used for the same tactical benefits of Meat Bait with some added damage, making it the superior choice of the two. You will be able to purchase this Curveball after completing “The Search for Truth” and heading to Ocean Avenue.

1Caustic-X Bomb

This Curveball will become one of your favorite moments you get it. It doesn’t need the larger radius and explosive power of the Military Grenade or the flames of the Molotov, as it is able to apply the Melting status effect to numerous targets all at once.

Zombies with this effect take more damage from other weapons in your arsenal, meaning once they start melting they are so much easier to just wipe away. It is a really satisfying feeling to see you accomplish clearing away zombies so much faster than normal with your weapons. This looks visually amazing thanks to theFLESH system.
