It has been five years since the last big-screenStar Warsrelease hit the theatres, whose disappointment pushed Disney to revamp its approach towards the galaxy far, far away. Since then, the small screen has been the House of Mouse’s priority in terms ofStar Warsprojects, but after a prolonged wait, the IP is finally set to return to the big screen.
Daisy Ridley, who headlined the sequel trilogy, is also set to reprise her part of Rey Skywalker in one of the three Star Wars films, which were announced last year. However, according to the actor, her second run as Rey might be short-lived.

When her tenure withStar Warsconcluded in 2019, Daisy Ridley had a hard time landing major gigs outside the ginormous IP, as“there weren’t that many offers coming in“.

But this hasn’t hindered her excitement to return as Rey again in the upcomingStar Wars film, set to be directed bySharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. However, she is only signed to this film, as there are currently no plans for theYoung Woman and the Seastar to helm another trilogy.

I’m doing one, for now… it’s very cool, different director, different writer, Stephen Knight is writing it, and directing it is Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who has made some unbelievable documentaries. It’s very exciting, and I shall be reading a script soon-ish.
The Obaid-Chinoy-led film is one of the threeStar Warsprojects, with the other two involving James Mangold and Dave Filoni, which will kickstart a new era for the IP on the big screen.

Despite being excited to return to the role, which contributed to her career coming to a standstill for a while,Daisy Ridleyis still not completely over the backlash toThe Rise of Skywalker. Considering the previous two installments prior to it were already super divisive, the threequel served as the last nail in the coffin, and Ridley is still upset over fans’ disappointment with it.

It’s still upsetting. You don’t want people to feel like you’ve not served the thing they’re a fan of. But [The Last Jedi] was so divisive … it felt like the first one everyone was responsive in the same way. The second, super divisive. The last one, super divisive … It didn’t change how I felt about it
It’ll be interesting to see how this new chapter for the franchise will unfold moving forward, and hopefully, the Ridley-led flick can finally set things right for the IP on the big screen.
