Cygames and Arc System Works' upcoming fighting titleGranblue Fantasy Versusis coming exclusively to PS4 later this year. During E3 2019, we sat down with Kenichiro Takaki from Cygames to talk about potential platform releases following the PS4 version’s launch.
Back around the time when the game was first revealed the director ofGranblue Fantasy,Tetsuya Fukuhara, said that the team was interested inpotentially bringingVersusto PC. I asked -Takaki-san if the team is still interested in this, as well as a Nintendo Switch port, leading up to the launch of the PS4 version. He said:
“…handhelds are super big in Japan. It’s so easy to play and access. What we envision kind of requires higher specs with the console games. However, one thing that really drives it this time around is that we want as many people as possible to get introduced to the franchise and enjoy the game. We aren’t taking a stance saying no we definitely won’t be doing something on Switch, that’s not the case. Ultimately, it always strongly depends on the game itself. What platform is best suited for a certain title? That is the decision we have to make.”
In regard to a potential PC version:
“Nothing is set in stone and I cannot really say. Definitely at this point, as I just mentioned with regard to the last question, it’s important for us to have as many people as possible enjoy the game and get introduced to the franchise. Going by that logic you know what that means (stay tuned).”
It seems like as of right now, the team is fully focused on developing the game for PS4 players. But with a multitude of Arc System Works games making their ways to other platforms like PC and Switch withBlazBlue: Cross Tag BattleandDragon Ball FighterZ,it’s easy, for me at least, to imagineGranblue Fantasy Versusmaking its way to these platforms. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
In other news, Cygames announced that they’re partnering withXSEED Gamesfor the western release ofGranblue Fantasy Versus.Last month,Ladiva was revealedas the latest character joining the roster.
