The curse of video game adaptations has run strong for many years now. Whenever an iconic video game gets adapted into a movie or a show, it is likely to severely disappoint the true fans of the original work. However, some exceptions have proved their strength quite loudly in recent years. Pedro Pascal’sThe Last of Usis a perfect example of such a work, making only necessary changes and staying true to the source material in the best of ways.

So much so, that it became one of the most critically acclaimed shows of all time. Showcasing an excellent story through a perfect cast, fans have a lot of faith in what is to come in the future. However, a recent update may cause concern, as the series may go down a path that very few have come out of alive.
The Last of Us—A Perfect Story
When Neil Druckmann was creatingThe Last of Usgames, there was a very specific vision in mind; two games, telling a complete story. The first game dealt with simpler themes of connection and human society after the world they knew fell apart around them.
The second game, however, has several different stories that deal with extremely complex storylines. WhileThe Last of Us IIcaused a serious debate among fans, there is no denying that the story as a whole is a masterpiece.

Since the first game was perfectly adapted in every aspect, many fans were expecting the second season to follow suit, perhaps being split into two halves and the series running for two seasons more. However, a recent interview withCraig Mazinsuggests otherwise.
Craig Mazin Has Fans Worried
Recently, Craig Mazin gave an interview withDeadline, where he revealed an interesting detail about the future ofThe Last of Us.Many fans assumed that the series would end after its second season. If the story had spread a bit more, it could have ended at the third. However, the creator revealed that the series is likely to go on for four seasons.
We don’t think that we’re going to be able to tell the story even within two seasons [2 and 3] because we’re taking our time and go down interesting pathways which we did a little bit in Season 1 too.

Much like the first season and its side stories, the second game would be divided into three parts, with more side-character development, and this cannot be done in two seasons, according to Mazin. He further revealed that the third season would be bigger than the first two, and the story would conclude itself on a fourth.

We feel like it’s almost assuredly going to be the case that — as long as people keep watching and we can keep making more television — Season 3 will be significantly larger. And indeed, the story may require Season 4.
It is safe to say that many viewers will not be happy with such an approach. Many shows and movie series have a tendency to drag on for much longer than they need to, simply so that they can milk the franchise for all the profit it can give them. This is one of the most criticized phenomena in Hollywood, and there are several reasons for it.

The longer a series goes, the more likely it is that it will go down in quality. Knowing that the Pedro Pascal series could be subjected to a similar process, fans are worried that yet another beloved series will be destroyed in front of their eyes.
