There’s no denying the fact thatCounter-Strike 2was one of the most anticipated releases of 2023, asCS:GOhad long been Steam’s most popular title to jump on. A fresh version of the exact same thing was what everyone had been hoping for.

However, it’s been a year since the release, and that feeling has soured. Constant complaints about cheaters, lack of new content, and missing modes fromCS:GOhave mostly led to a negative reception surrounding the title.

However, there’s another thing that Valve still hasn’t fixed with the game: matchmaking.

Counter-Strike 2‘s matchmaking is a complete nightmare

Counter-Strike 2is basically partly a remake, and partly a new title, usingCS:GOas a leaping-off point to bring us new ideas and graphical improvements.

We get to see new visual rendering effects and changes to the physics sandbox, thanks to the game’s use of Valve’s Source 2 engine. What hasn’t changed since the original gameis the horrific matchmaking.

Since the release ofCounter-Strike 2, the in-game matchmaking has always proven to be a weak spot for the game, and all the issues stem from the days ofCS:GO.

The game makes use of the infamous“skill-based matchmaking”that puts players against higher-ranked opponents or smurfs that completely ruin any sort of competitive gameplay, leaving many frustrated and wanting to uninstall the game.

For any competitive shooter out there, the basic focus is to provide a level playing field and pair players with those of similar skills. However, mismatched gamesplague the player experience inCounter-Strike,as they’re always unfairly challenged.

With upcoming updates, Valve and Gabe Newell must bring overhauls to the game to fix the matchmaking system. There should be a sort of system that not only accounts for skill level but also considers a player’s recent games, abilities, and behavior.

Not only that but there also needs to be stricter tactics against smurfing and account boosting all over the game. Once these problems are addressed, it won’t be long before the game regains its lost glory.

Counter-Strike 2 Gets First Look at Brand New Map, and it Reminds Us of Old Times

Valve’s silence onCounter-Strike 2is worrying players

Valve is a company that’s known for its lowkey approach to updates and marketing. However, many expected that withCounter-Strike 2, the studio would take a new approach and set the standards higher for the franchise, but that hasn’t materialized.

Counter-Strike 2 Gets First Look at Brand New Map, and it Reminds Us of Old Times

Over the last couple of months, Newell and his team have given us a number of additions to the game, such as the armory pass and the return of iconic maps, such as Train. These have ensured steady player counts, but players are growing frustrated that we still haven’t received significant updates, such as Operations or events.

Seriously, it’s been two years since the development team added any newCounter-Strikeattack operation. If Valve is really working on something new for the game, it should at least keep an open communication with the community and give us a roadmap for the future.

Even though the game is performing quite well on Steam, and the skin market is flourishing, its player base has shrunken compared toCS:GO‘s peak. Let’s hope Valve can bring some meaningful additions in the upcoming months.

With that said, is there anything else you believe needs a change or rework inCounter-Strike 2? Let us know in the comments below.
