With its popularity never really fading, discussions about the show have only grown over time. And one particular aspect has repeatedly sparked debate among fans. Today, we’re diving into it!

Fans can’t stand howModern Familytreated Claire!

Even a Phil Dunphy fan would agree, he’s got abit of a problem. Sure, he’s the perfect dad and a loving husband, but he’s not without his flaws. One of the biggest? The way he treats Claire, especially when an attractive woman is around, hell, even Gloria, and let’s just say, itdoesn’t always sit rightwith fans.

TakeSeason 3, Episode 2,“When Good Kids Go Bad.”The entire joke revolves around Claire and her so-called obsession with winning arguments. The argument in question?

While chatting up an attractive woman at the grocery store, Phil absentmindedly pushes their cart, which then knocks Claire into a display of cans. Naturally, no one believes Claire when she insists it wasn’t just a clumsy accident, Phil actually pushed her!

Determined to prove her point, she goes to ridiculous lengths to get the security footage, finally revealing the truth at Cam and Mitchell’s place. But instead of validation, she’s met with eye rolls, and somehow, the whole thing getstraced back to Jay, because apparently, the Pritchett stubborn streak is genetic. This doesn’t sit right with many, here is what people have to say on Reddit,

The show may be ruthless when it comes to Claire, but what really gets under fans’ skin is how Phil’s obvious slip-ups are constantly overlooked. While Claire is often labeled as overly dramatic or obsessive, Phil’s blunders, no matter how glaring, tend to be shrugged off as part of his goofiness.

Why doesModern Familylet Phil off the hook every time?

One of the most facepalm-worthy moments inModern Familyhas to be the infamous wedge salad fiasco. Claire had been raving about wedge salads for years, only for Phil to suddenly act like it was the greatest culinary discovery, thanks to some random acquaintance.

Naturally, Claire was fuming, while Phil stood there clueless, trying to figure out why she was mad. The funniest or perhaps the most frustrating part? He had so many daily slip-ups, that he couldn’t even narrow it down!

But if that was just mildly annoying, things got downright cringe-worthy in the episode was the Season 2 episode,The One That Got Away.In an attempt to impress an old rival, Phil casually pretended that Gloria was his wife. He let a completely false narrative slide just to boost his own ego, only to be called out by his friend later about how beautiful Claire truly is.

And yet, instead of calling it out as aserious blunder, the show played it off as just another one of Phil’s goofy gags. Fans, however, weren’t laughing, many were actually disgusted at how the series constantly let Phil off the hook while Claire was often painted as the unreasonable one.

All episodes of Modern Family are available on Hulu.
