Interestingly, he won the Best Actor Academy Award shortly after the incident, and while he apologized to the Academy and other nominees for ruining the night, he didn’t mention Rock.

A source also toldPeoplein an interview in 2023 that Smith has since reached out to Chris Rock to apologize for the incident.

He’s tried unsuccessfully to make amends in the best way he could with Chris. But beyond that, family is important to him and [Smith] leaned on them. It all has helped him look inside and mature. He is better but still remorseful.

Interestingly, although Will Smith has expressed his regret for his actions over the last couple of years, thefeud between him and Chris Rock seems far from over. Chris isn’t the victim here, not in Will’s opinion. A lot of people would agree with Will and think what’s happening to Chris is karma for refusing to speak to Will or accept his apology.
