Chicago Huntsmen have been a fan favorite in the Call of Duty Leagueâs inaugural season. In a close match-up against rival Dallas Empire, the Huntsmen didnât disappoint. Explosive plays and excellent strategy showed just how dominant the roster plans to be for the rest of the season.Jumping into todayâs series, the Huntsmen had a 6-2 map count, and a 4-0 Hardpoint record against Empire. Many believed the Huntsmen would obliterate Empire, and while the team solidified the 3-0 sweep, many of the games were close. Kicking off the series with Hardpoint on Azhir Cave, the Huntsmen showed off their respawn skills with impressive individual stats.Matthew âFormaLâ Piper topped the Chicago Huntsmen leaderboard with 37 kills. Alec âArcitysâ Sanderson trailed just behind with 32 kills in the match. On the Empire squad, Call of Duty veterans Ian âCrimsixâ Porter and James âClaysterâ Eubanks both sealed 39 eliminations, but were unable to shift the tide. Huntsmen went 1-0 in the series with a 250-239 score.Several say Search and Destroy wins series, and this proved to be true in an intense match on Arklov Peak. While Dallas won the same map 6-1 during the Launch Weekend, Chicago managed to tug out the slim 6-5 victory. Peirce âGunlessâ Hillman ended the second match with 14 kills and a massive bomb plant kill that helped keep the Huntsmen on top.
Dallas, facing a 2-0 deficit, charged into Domination on St. Petrograd to grab an early 100-87 lead. However, Chicago answered back in the second half with a triple capture. Dylan âEnvoyâ Hannon lead the Chicago leaderboards with 30 kills. The team finished map three with a 192-156 score, solidifying the 3-0 series sweep.
Dallas Empire finished the first home series with a second place finish, much better than their journey through Launch Weekend. The roster had been a top pick during the pre-season, but failed to perform at Minnesota. While the squad wasnât able to pull out a victory against rivals Seth âScumpâ Abner and FormaL, it seems like theyâre starting to find their rhythm. However, Chicago is confident about future tournaments.
âBeating them three times is huge for us because now every time we play them, itâs going to be in the back of their minds,â Scump said in an interview with ESPN. âWeâve beat them four times on LAN already and thereâs only been two events. Itâs great to have that one-up on them, and if we carry this momentum hopefully we just keep beating them over and over.â
