Nearly a decade after its debut inThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Gwent is stepping off the screen and onto tabletops. CD Projekt Red, in collaboration with Hachette Boardgames and No Loading Games, is set to launch a physical version of the iconic card game in Q3 2025.

This physical edition of the card game promises to deliver an authentic recreation of the iconic in-game experience which has been claimed to be the “biggest ‘game within a game’ in media history.” With Riot Games’ reveal ofProject K, aLeague of Legends-themed trading card game (TCG), CD Projekt Red (CDPR) is looking to compete.
It Took a Decade ButGwentis Finally Coming To Our Tabletops
Originally introduced as an in-game mini-game inThe Witcher 3, Gwent quickly became a fan favorite. Despite CDPR’s massive success with third entry intoThe Witcherseries, Gwent’s real-world debut has been a long time coming. CDPR had been busy with post-launch work on The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, and its expansions, but it’s here now.
Hachette Boardgames hasannouncedthe game’s physical release in both the US and UK. The tabletop experience ofGwentwill include more than 400 cards and a playmat to replicate the tavern-table battles fromThe Witcher 3. Priced at $39.99 in the US and £44 in the UK, pre-orders are now open through Hachette’s official channels.

The timing of this physical release seems strategic. There’s beena recent resurgence of interestinThe Witcherfranchise because of new leaks regarding The Witcher 4, and other news. And it coincides with Riot’s entry into the same market withProject K.
Riot Games Has Its Own Challenger Coming
Riot Games is also making its mark on the physical TCG market withProject K, set to launch in early 2025. Based on the League of Legends universe,Project Kbuilds on the design philosophies of Riot’s digital card game,Legends of Runeterra. AlthoughProject Kwill debut in China, Riot has plans for a global rollout and is currently seeking publishing partners outside Asia.

Riot has highlighted thatProject Kis not just a physical adaptation ofLegends of Runeterra, but a new experience with unique mechanics. It features iconicLeaguechampions like Ahri, Viktor, and Jinx, and will include decks that thematically match their in-game lore. It will also include two-versus-two and free-for-all matches.
