Yesterday afternoon,Activisionshowed off all of the new content coming toCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3,Warzone, andWarzone Mobilewith the launch of Season 5 later this month. From new multiplayer maps to areturning fan favourite Warzone location, Season 5 is shaping up to be another massive content update. But fans have once again been left baffled by a returning character who is supposed to be dead.
After disobeying an order from Vladimir Makarov during the Modern Warfare 3 campaign, Ivan Alexxeve was brutally shot by his successor, Andrei Nolan. Now, however, Ivan is returning to Call of Duty via the upcoming Season 5 update as a new playable Operator. The character even has a scar on the side of his head, implying that Ivan could somehow survive a gunshot to the temple.

Epic Games CEO Hints At 200-Player Fortnite Lobbies With Unreal Engine 6
Tim Sweeney says Epic Games is making “big efforts” to improve the networking model in Unreal Engine 6.
While this might not seem like much of a big deal, the cutscenes that are included with each new season act as a continuation of the Modern Warfare 3 campaign. Thus, each time a new character magically returns from the dead, it is considered canon.

It was only a few months ago that fansexpressed their outrage over the “pointless” story, due to the return of another supposedly dead character: John “Soap” MacTavish. Now, just one season later, we’re back once again asking the question: “Does Call of Duty understand how character deaths work?”
Over on X (formerly Twitter), fans are calling out Activision’s lack of care for Modern Warfare 3’s campaign. “I hate this about MWII/MWIII. There’s no story beyond the campaign like the previous cods did, they just throw random stuff into the mix,“one user saidin regards to the return of various ‘dead’ characters.

Ivan’s return marks the third character to be reintroduced to Call of Duty, despite supposedly dying in the Modern Warfare 2 or 3 campaign. Commander Phillip Graves was the first to be resurrected in Season 5 of Modern Warfare 2, followed by Soap in Season 4 of Modern Warfare 3, and now Ivan in the upcoming Season 5.
While there’s clearly no regard for any story continuation, there’s still plenty of great content coming with Season 5. From a plethora of new cell-shaded map variations, new gameplay features, weapons, modes, and even acollaboration with the WWE, Season 5 has something for everyone.
