As fans prepared for the release of H2M, which was one of the most anticipated mods forModern Warfare Remasteredthat was meant to act as a remaster of 2009’sModern Warfare 2, the game saw a massive surge in gamers flocking to the title to prepare for the mod’s release on August 16.

The surge in players wasn’t just due to the H2M mod; it was boosted by a sale that allowed Steam users to pick up the shooter for an incredible 50% off! However, it seems like the game is suffering from the same fate asHelldivers 2on Valve’s service as it is being review-bombed to oblivion.

Many of the negative reviews state that Activision outright lacks the desire to please gamers with an official remaster ofModern Warfare 2‘s multiplayer. Gamers anticipated the release of H2M as it would’ve allowed them to experience the legendary title in all its glory once again. However, they’re now wondering how to refundModern Warfare Remastered!
Although Activision released a remastered version of the game’s campaign mode way back in 2020, the studio has already confirmed there are no plans in the works to bring a revamped multiplayer mode forModern Warfare 2 Remastered.

Even though the mod needs players to have an official copy ofModern Warfare Remastered, it’s unlikely for Activision to reverse its decision and allow the mod creators to release their project despite the community outrage.
Why Did Activision Shut Down Modern Warfare Remastered Mod?
The H2M mod was initially inspired by the fact that Activision itself did not release a remaster forCall of Duty:Modern Warfare 2‘s multiplayer, despite its popularity. The studio instead gave a single-player-only remaster, which felt half-baked and didn’t sit right among fans of the franchise.

We can’t forget that Activision has the right to shut down the mod. Any kind of fan project that tries to recreate existing content is always at a higher risk of getting shut down by a right-holder who chooses not to look the other way.
Such projects can always divert attention from Activision’s own games and negatively impact sales and overall player engagement. Sure, H2M was crafted with care, but it always had the chance of tarnishing the game’s name if it did not meet the standards.

However, if the mod was released, H2M would’ve basically ported the entireModern Warfare 2‘s multiplayer intoModern Warfare Remastered, which had a multiplayer. The mod would’ve expanded the progression system with new emblems, a progression system, calling cards, and much more.
With that said, do you think Activision has made a blunder by blocking the H2M mod? If so, let us know in the comments.
