Each year’s annualized entry in theCall of Dutyseries typically finds its way near the top of the year-end gaming sales charts. Once again in 2019, it’s expected thatCall of Duty: Modern Warfarewill continue this trend and will likely be the top-seller of the year when all is said and done.
In anew reportpublished by Mat Piscatella of the NPD Group today, it was said thatCall of Duty: Modern Warfareis expected to be 2019’s best-selling game, which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise whatsoever. If this ends up happening, this would be the ninth time in the past 11 years that aCall of Dutytitle has been the year’s top-seller. Piscatella goes on to predict thatNBA 2K20,Madden 20,Borderlands 3, andMortal Kombat 11will round out the top five spots. As of this moment,Mortal Kombat 11is 2019’s current best-seller.
As mentioned, it really shouldn’t come as too big of a shock thatModern Warfareis expected to do this well, especially taking into account that there seem to be no other sales juggernauts releasing this year. Last year sawthe launch ofRed Dead Redemption II, which actually ended up toppingCall of Duty: Black Ops 4by the end of 2018. The remainder of 2019 really has no releases ofRDR2’scaliber to contend withCOD, however.
Personally, I’m more interested in seeing howModern Warfareperforms compared to past entries in the series. There seems to be more hype and buzz aroundModern Warfarethis year than there has been for anyCall of Dutygames over the past couple years. Whether or not it will be one of the best-selling in the history of the franchise remains to be seen, but I think it’s definitely possible.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfareis slated to arrive next month on October 25 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Currently, the game is having an open beta period this weekend across all platforms.
