Brendan Fraser Was Afraid To Assume The Role of Superhero?

Earlier onTheHoward Stern Show, Brendan Fraser, 55, said he did not regret not landing a superhero role—especially Superman. As much as it was an amazing opportunity, he knew that if he played that superhero role, he might become permanently linked to that character, something he did not want. He continued, saying:

“Of course, it’s a life-changing, amazing opportunity, but I had to reconcile with, ‘OK, say you do get the job to be the Man of Steel. It’s going to be chipped on your gravestone. Are you OK with that? You will forevermore be known as the Man of Steel.”

The Oscar-winning star went on to add:

“There was a sort of Faustian bargain that went into [the] feeling, and I think inherently I didn’t want to be known for only one thing because I prided myself on diversity my whole professional life. I’m not a one-trick pony.”

Well, he brought up a good point. If he had played the beloved superhero, he would have been forever linked to that role—even though he had many more roles to his name. He did not want to live on in the history books as the superhero, even after the role had left him.

His next appearance will be in the comedy-dramaBrothers, which is being directed by Max Barbakow and written by Macon Blair based on an Etan Cohen story.
