With theFalloutTV show now getting both fans and newcomers to the series talking about the franchise, we are starting to learn more details about the games. We got to learn about some aspects considered fundamental to the game series that Todd Howard wanted to include in the TV show.

Fallout 4’s male protagonist is not a newcomer to the wasteland.

Other people who have been part of the game development team are also voicing their opinions and trivia on social media. One such person has decided to reveal a piece of information that links the very first game to one of the most recent releases in the franchise, and we are sure no one would have linked it otherwise.

Bethesda Design Director Shows How Fallout 4 is Linked to the First Game

One thing the games are known for is little to no overlap of storylines. EachFallouttitle is a fresh adventure and a new perspective on the wasteland. However, there are recurring locations and characters in the series, with some references being drawn to events from other titles. But we rarely expect a reference to our protagonist to be found in later games in the series.

Given the great vibes recently, and the millions of amazing Fallout fans (that’s you!) I feel like the time is right to finally share an unknown link between Fallout 1 and Fallout 4. Remember the Fallout 1 opening movie? Annexation of Canada? SAME. GUY. (No, NOT the shooter!) 🤓pic.twitter.com/9JNWmg7yL0

Fans Are Wrong About Prime’s Fallout Being the Best Video Game Adaptation of All Time

— Emil Pagliarulo (@Dezinuh)July 11, 2025

However, that’s exactly what we have now, only in reverse! Emil Pagliarulo, Design Director at Bethesda Studios, has just revealed an interesting bit of lore that should interest a lot of Fallout fans. People must be aware ofthe male protagonist fromFallout4, given the amount of time they would have to stare at his face during character creation.

Fans Are Wrong About Prime’s Fallout Being the Best Video Game Adaptation of All Time

Well, it seems the male protagonist was in the first game. Pagliarulo points to the opening movie of the game titled ‘Annexation of Canada’, and circles one of the characters featured in the background. Now, Pagliarulo clarifies that the character is not the shooter, but the fact that he is laughing as his comrade performs such acts is no redeeming quality.

So the main protag we are supposed to have sympathy for losing his wife and kid is the same guy who is laughing as his buddy murders an unarmed prisoner? lmfaoooo

The TV series is also looking to follow the games’ tradition of having a new storyline and a new character. Considering that is the norm for allFalloutmedia, it’s surprising to see that the protagonist of a later game was in the very first game in the series.

The Fallout Show is Giving Old Fans a Lot to Talk About

As with any live-action adaptation of a beloved franchise, the series by Jonathan Nolan is sparking a lot of conversation among fans. While the show has received mostly positive reviews from fans and critics, some gamers are not happy withhow the creators retconnedFallout: New Vegas. They feel this is caused by Todd Howard’s alleged dislike of the title.

Whether that is true or not, New Vegas is now not part of the show’s canon, and that might not sit well with every fan. Offering glimpses of small connections like the one made by Pagliarulo might assuage some fans, but that remains to be seen.

The show is currently available on Amazon Prime and follows the adventures of Lucy as she exits Vault 33. Walton Goggins plays the character of The Ghoul, and we know the Brotherhood of Steel is also involved in the story.

Gaming was one of my earliest passions then along came writing, and here we are. I’ve been in the content creation space for several years now and as gamer for even longer. From understanding the complexities of a multilayer narrative to the simply joy of “big gun go boom”, my goal is to capture all the emotions in between and put them down in an engaging manner.
