According to new reports, the claim by formerBayonettavoice actor Hellena Taylor that she was offered just $4,000 to play the titular character inBayonetta 3has been disputed.
This past weekend, Taylor posted a series of videos to social media explaining why she chosenot to reprise her role as Bayonetta. She shared thatPlatinumGamesoffered her $4,000 to voice Bayonetta in the series’ upcoming instalment. She described the offer as “immoral” and called on fans to boycott the game.

Bayonetta 3 executive director Hideki Kimayatook to Twitter to describe his feelings, saying he was “sad and deplorable about the attitude of untruth. That’s all I can tell now.” Taylor’s replacement, the veteran Jennifer Hale, released her own statement on the situation.
Now, new reports by bothBloombergandVGChave contradicted Taylor’s claims. According to Bloomberg’s sources, PlatinumGames offered Taylor between $3,000 and $4,000 per session for five sessions, with each session being four hours in length. In total, this would amount to about $15,000 for the entirety of the work on Bayonetta 3. In response, Taylor asked for a six-figure sum and residuals, an offer that Platinum predictably declined.
Sources shared that Taylor was then offered a cameo in the game which would require one session of work, but the voice actor declined. Taylor disputes these claims, calling them “an absolute lie” and claiming the studio was just “trying to save their ass and the game.”
VGC revealed that their own sources corroborated much of Bloomberg’s report. Additionally, they revealed that the offered sum “represented a significant increase on Taylor’s fee for the second game.” Taylor told VGC that “I’d quite like to put this in the rearview mirror and leave the whole bloody franchise behind.”
Since the release of Taylor’s videos, she has received an outpouring of support from both fans and industry counterparts. The matter of fair compensation for voice actors has once again been thrust into the media spotlight.
