These major publishers have one last shot at dethroning Activision.
Accompanying the announcement is a concept art piece showing an American M1A2 Abrams tank in desert paint rolling beneath an overpass in a destroyed city, reinforcing earlier reports that the game would have a contemporary setting.
Although there are no readily identifiable features, some players suggest it could be Baghdad or Cairo based on the architecture. An earlier promotional piece shows a major battle raging over the Gibraltar strait.
Battlefield Strikes Back
Although theBattlefieldfranchise helped definemainstream large-scale shooters, EA has struggled to keep players engaged for at least a decade.
The publisher’s attempts to refresh the series ran through WW1, WW2, and even a near-futuristic entry withBattlefield 2042. AlthoughBattlefield 1scored reasonably high, the game came nowhere near the mainstream appeal of older titles.
In what may be a last-ditch attempt to bring the franchise to its heyday, EA broke from the script andappointed multiple studiosto handle the development.DICE, traditionally the franchise’s sole showrunner, is in charge of the multiplayer side of the newBattlefield.
To keep thesingle-player campaignengaging, EA appointed Motive Studios. The company put out the widely-acclaimedDead Spaceremake, but the jury is still out on what it can do with an original story.
Another fine addition to the lineup is Criterion Games ofBlackfame, one of thebest console shootersever made. The seasonal multiplayer content has been assigned to Ripple Effect.

EA has finally unveiled their plans for the next Battlefield title, which will stick to the fundamentals of the series.
