One of the strengths ofD&Dis that its Spellcasters have always been distinct enough from each other that they play and feel completely different, all the while having access to very similarspells. AlthoughLariancontinues that tradition inBaldur’s Gate 3, they also alter the rules to some known mechanics to make them more balanced within the limits of their game.
Allsubclasses of the WarlockClass get to choose one of three Pacts at level 3 to gain a Pact Boon, giving them an additional tool to use in combat. Among the three, the Pact of the Blade is the most attractive as it allows your Warlock to transform from a long-range spellcaster to a bonafide Spellblade, merging swordsmanship and magic into one. BG3’s version of this Pact is stronger than the standard D&D variant, making it even more useful for Warlocks.

How Does Pact Of The Blade Work
Pact of the Blade gives the Warlocktwoabilities:
Bind Pact Weapon can be cast on all weaponsand anything classified as a Warlock’s Pact Weapon is bound to them, and it uses theirspellcasting modifier to scale instead of Strength or Dexterity. In a Warlock’s case, this means thatthe Pact Weapon will always add theWarlock’s Charisma scoreto the weapon’s Attack and Damage rolls, instantly transforming them from amateur melee fighters to expert swordsmen, provided you’ve been investing in Charisma.
This adjusted scaling also applies to any weapon that the Warlock uses Bind Pact Weapon on, instantly making them suitable for Warlocks to use. You’ll alsobecomeautomatically proficientwith a Bound Weapon.

All of this combined makes Pact of the Blade Warlocks the mostversatile melee combatantsin face-to-face combat. Found an uber-powerful legendary weapon that no one in thepartycan use? No problem! BringWyllinto the party and have him cast Bind Weapon on it. Instantly usable.
