Avatar: The Legend of Korrahas a lot in its past that makes it a controversial show in the eyes ofAvatar: The Last Airbenderfans. From the stories it followed to the well-established lore it disregarded, there were various aspects of the spin-off series that did not sit well with the fans. At the same time, there were those who saw great potential in the series.

A still from Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender

Korra’s journey is unique on its own, set in a dystopian world filled with challenges unlike those other Avatars were forced to face. The execution and overall product that came to be was a certain jumbled mess not many found themselves attracted to. Now that the live-action series for the originalAvatar: The Last Airbenderis streaming on Netflix, it begs the question of whether or not the spin-off would also get a similar opportunity.

“That’s catnip for writers”: Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender Creator Revealed Which Character Writers Love the Most and That’s Surprisingly Not Aang

Unfortunately, changes of the same happening are less than likely for a very mundane yet integral reason – the original showrunners’ involvement.

Avatar: The Legend of Korra Has a Bleak Live-Action Future

Following the bittersweet response thatAvatar: The Last Airbender’slive-action series has fetched, the possibility of a sequel series being the works becomes significantly low. However, it is also to be noted that both Book 2 and Book 3 of the original series are in the process of being adapted into the live-action counterpart. Seeing that the first season already had its fair share of problems, it won’t be an easy adaptation either.

Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the creators ofAvatar: The Last Airbenderwere fully dedicated to working on the Netflix series, something that had given the fans a spark of hope. This celebration was only to last for a moment beforethe rose-colored glasses shattered.

DiMartino and Konietzko both decided to exit the seriesdue to creative differences. The story was going too awry for their liking and the thought and care put into the original show was being disregarded. Unable to handle the same, they chose to leave the show instead.

Avatar: The Legend of Korra Plays a Game of Faith

Avatar: The Legend of Korrahas a risky gamble to play when it comes to the probability of a live-action series. Not only does it depend on the future success of its prequel series, but also on the original creators. There is a less than-likely chance of the series ever happening simply because the creators have a lot of issues when it comes to what the series would offer its audience.

Having little to no faith in their precious shows being adapted could very well become the fatal cause of the spin-off never being made. There is a chance that they might find a good cast, and the show might get greenlit too, but the fact that fans would not see it to be promising would always be a sword hanging above Netflix’s head.

The chances of failure get increased when the original showrunners are nowhere near a project they dedicated their blood, sweat, and tears for. At the end of the day, it is all based on faith, or the lack thereof. Unfortunately forThe Legend of Korra,it would seem that the latter is more likely.
