Assassin’s CreedShadows has officially been revealed after using its conceptual name Codename Red during its development for some time. Taking part in Feudal Japan, this particular era has been highly requested by dedicated AC fans throughout the franchise’s history and now that it’s here, the Ubisofttrailerhas received some backlash from its fanbase as it gets over 228k dislikes, Whether that’s to do with racism or due to never reallyowning the games, it seems as though there’s an obvious discontent.

What we do know, though, is that Shadows will star dual protagonists: Naoe, a female shinobi, and Yasuke, a powerful samurai. When it comes to Naoe, it seems as though her look has come a long way from what it originally was going to be in the concept stage.

Assassin’s Creed Welcomed Walking Dead’s Rick Grimes And Nobody Noticed

The Walking Dead might be fans of the Assassin’s Creed games as Rick Grimes gives a subtle nod to the franchise.

As we can see through both of these posts onRedditandTwitter, the sneaky and superfast protagonist Shinobi has had a revamp from when she was first brought to life by the Ubisoft art team. Naoe’s attire now seems to be more closely in tune with that of what fans are more accustomed to seeing in the Assassin’s Creed franchise and seems more in line with being able to “hide in the shadows”.

Thankfully, Naoe has still kept her Kusarigama from the original concept art, a traditional Japanese weapon that consists of a kama on a kusari-fundo, and her shinobi outfit has had a vibrant dash of blues and reds. It’s also good to point out that Naoe’s outfit choice now would be more akin to howfemale shinobi’s, known as kunoichi, which formed an important part of medieval shinobi clans, would have similarly dressed or at least something like this so they could move freely in combat.

In the comment section of the Reddit post, many Assassin’s Creed fans actually liked the original look as they felt the new one was more fitting the typical AC aesthetics and enjoyed seeing something different. “The generic one is MUCH better, she looks deadly and stealthy.” said userSoupyStain"The new one looks more like an Assassin (From the series), due to the blues, wider robes, and hood blended with a Ninja. So yeah, the current design is more appropriate for the series, but the older design was much cooler."

“I much prefer the one on the right. It looks more Japanese, especially with the face mask.” replied HibasakiSanjuro, “The default armor Ubisoft has shown looks more like a generic thief’s garb, not least because of the hood.” Mooch360 rounded things off with their opinion on which Naoe version they preferred by echoing the feeling of previous commentors, “I thought the one on the left was the generic one until I read the comments 💀 it looks like every Assassin’s Creed character ever.”

Assassin’s Creed Shadow is set to release for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on June 26, 2025, and is available forpreordernow.

The Excalibur-like Sword of Eden would have provided conflict in Assassin’s Creed Shadows with Oda Nobunaga using it to gain an “unfair advantage”.
