No matter who you are, no matter what game you play or what build you run, there’s always one surefire counter to that ultra-meta tactic you’re using to club enemies upside the head. And if your tactic is strong enough, it’s one that arrives all the faster.
Your weakness? Make enough players upset, and the devs will intervene.

Or at least, they should. And when it comes toRespawn Entertainment, they think they haven’t been doing enough. In a recent interview, they promised to do better.

Master these legends and your teammates will love you for it.
Apex Legends' next season,Season 26, has just been announced - and players are taking in all the juicy new features. They’ll get a permanent new gamemode - ‘Wildcard’ - that Respawn wants to have “more shooting, less looting”, relative to the typical Apex Legends match.

Apex Legends Won’t Let An Annoying Meta Stick Around Too Long
But aside from all the new content, this upcoming season comes with a promise. One that some will need to see to believe, but certainly sounds like a promising new addition. Speaking toVideogamer, Respawn Entertainment discussed their new philosophy for game updates.
Evan Nikolich, the game’s design director, spoke on how certain metas just become stale after a while. “The big thing is the balance between having fun, versus staleness, and annoyance,” Nikolich said. “Like Ash, Ballistic, Alter became very annoying."

It was kind cute for a couple of days but now its just… not fun.
While not a direct quote, the article does summarize Nikolich’s position thusly: “A stale meta with little change essentially results in a dead game as there’s nothing left to learn.”

Which is an interesting stance, but not entirely an unwelcome one. In the vast majority of cases, any sort of update or patch that rebalanced things was done in the name of balance; making the game fairer.
Respawn does still believe in that idea, of course. Problem children gotta get squashed every so often. But the idea of things becoming stale does also get a fair few mentions - in this view, a balance patch might just serve to shake things up. Change, partially for its own sake, because making players learn a slightly new system with new strengths and weaknesses could be fun.

If something annoying sticks around “longer than a few days”, the team has said they intend to start doing something about it. Naturally, that means they’ll be paying close attention to fan discussions on the various social media platforms - so if something just keeps dunking on you, that’ll be your go-to way of dealing with it.
It’s the natural predator of apex predators: upset gamers in large amounts.
“When it becomes very frustrating to fight, we have to fix that,” Nikolich continued. “We don’t want to let that pain sit around for too long. I think in the past we’ve made that mistake and just let things ride out.” Ride out no more - from now on, Apex Legends players can expect more frequent cases of divine intervention.
