GTA 6 Could Usher In A New Base Price For Games
There is no denying that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be the biggest game of 2025 – provided it’s not delayed. No other game can touch it, not even mega-franchise Call of Duty.
With this unprecedented hype, there is “hope” that publisher Take-Two Interactive will use it to raise the game’s base price to $100, since it’s projected to sell well even if they do. If that happens, other video game companies could follow suit, which could potentially help the spiraling development costs of AAA games.
Even without a price hike, a $100 edition of Grand Theft Auto 6 will likely be part of any special editions Take-Two plans to capitalize on.
In recent years, video game development budgets have increased drastically, so much so that one release not doing well could mean the end for the developer. One of the biggest budgets we’ve seen includes the latest Call of Duty game, Black Ops 6, which waspegged to have cost Activision $700 millionto develop, market, and release.
