Payday 3, a highly-anticipated sequel that failed to live up to the hype when it was released in late 2023, continues to have its concurrent player count mocked by the community. This time, however, one individual has noticed that its player count is lower than a game that hasn’t even been released yet.

With almost 40,000 user reviews at the time of writing this article, Payday 3 sits at a ‘mostly negative’ rating on Steam. While the game’s initial launch wasriddled with server issues, players also cite poor UI, slow progression, a plethora of bugs and glitches, and more as the reason for the game’s poor reception.

Almost Half Of PlayStation Gamers Still Prefer To Play Call Of Duty On PS4

Half of Call of Duty players are still playing on PlayStation’s last-gen console.

Four months after the game’s launch, development studio Starbreeze said it was aware that many players weren’t satisfied with its current state. “to turn your feedback into action, we’ve put together a strike team of veteran developers from the design, community, communication and production teams with the focus on bringing PAYDAY 3 up to where it will meet your expectations,” the studio announced back in January.

A month later, Starbreeze announced ‘Operation Medic Bag’, outlining the studio’s plan for Payday 3 throughout the year. Unfortunately, despite many months of new content updates and bug fixes, the game’s player count continues to dwindle. At least on Steam, anyway.

Valve’s Unreleased ‘Deadlock’ Has More Players Than Payday 3

Deadlock, a yet-to-be-announced, heavily leaked hero-based shooter from Valve, is supposedly in the closed-testing phase of development. Despite the fact that only a handful of people will be playing, it’s still managed to garner a higher player count than Payday 3, a first-person shooter that is less than 1 year old.

According to theSteamDB page for Deadlock, which has been confirmed as legitimate by the website’s owner (viaIGN), there are more concurrent players than Payday 3. As spotted by a Reddit user, Deadlock is averaging around 1,000 players in its 24 hour peak, while Payday 3 is just over 400 players.

Details on Valve’s next game first surfaced earlier this month from an X (formerly Twitter) user known as Gabe Follower. In apost on May 16, the user said, “Deadlock. Next Valve game. Previously known as Neon Prime, Citadel. Competitive third person hero-based shooter. 6 vs 6 battling on huge map with 4 lanes.”

It wasn’t long until gameplay and images of Deadlock started surfacing online, although many of the clips have since been taken down. Unfortunately, there’s no word on a release date, as Valve hasn’t even confirmed the game’s existence as of yet.
