While we’re hearing a lot of conflicting reactions surrounding the launch of Google Stadia’s streaming service, it seems that the unannounced Amazon streaming service will be launching in 2020 if a new report by CNET is anything to go by.
Earlier this year, Amazon was said to be working on a game streaming service of their own and were negotiating plans with publishers to build up a library of games ready for launch. Flick ahead to later this year, specifically now, andCNETsays that the service is moving forward and towards an official announcement next year.
It looks as if Amazon’s streaming service will be powered by the company’s AWS cloud service with plans to integrate the live-streaming platform Twitch according to a job posting. Amazon acquired Twitchback in 2014.
Another job posting related to the streaming service has a statement which reads “We believe the evolution that began with arcade communities a quarter at a time, growing to the live streams and e-sports of today, will continue to a future where everyone is a gamer and every gamer can create, compete, collaborate and connect with others at massive scales,”
If the streaming service launches next year with titles from the unknown publishers the company has reportedly been talking to, we can also expect to see games from Amazon Game Studios. There werelayoffs within the companyback in June which saw the cancelation of some unannounced projects, as well asending development for Breakawaya few months before. However, the studio has seenThe Grand Tour Game,New World, and even aLord of the RingsMMORPGenter development.
We’ve already got Microsoft’sXbox Game Pass Ultimateoffering a large library of games as well as Xbox Live Gold and the upcomingProject xCloud, as well asSony’s PlayStation Now. Google has also justlaunched Stadia.This will be just another subscription service to add to the list of streaming services for gaming. Although the possible integration of Twitch might be a selling point for those who use the platform depending on how Amazon plans to integrate the two.
