Alien: Rogue Incursion, the highly anticipated spiritual successor that people have been waiting for since the release ofAlien: Isolation, has finally dropped a chilling first look at the gameplay.
Developed by Survios, the game is set to release during the holiday season this year. One thing people didn’t expect was that the game is exclusive to the VR; could this be the marketing push the PSVR2 needs to finally see better days?
Sorry Folks, The New Alien Game is for PSVR2 Only
The PSVR2 isn’t one of the better-selling VR headsets of this generation, but the release ofRogue Incursioncould change everything. People have been waiting for a new game in the franchise for a while, and if this can build enough hype, people might be enticed to drop some cash and grab a headset for themselves.
The game is made in Unreal Engine 5. Players are tasked with exploring an overrun facility on the planet of Purdan, filled with mysterious and terrifying Xenomorphs.
Sony Announce New Plans For PlayStation with Some Multiplatform PSVR2 Games Inbound
According to the PlayStation blog announcement, the Xenomorphs dynamically spawn and have pathing with an endless number of possibilities:
…even we couldn’t tell you exactly where and when each Xenomorph will strike, let alone what strategies it might use or if it’ll bring some friends.
You’ll have a pulse rifle at your service, but your raw skill and wits will be your best chance at survival.
The PSVR2 Desperately Needs a Win
The PSVR2 didn’t perform well, sales-wise. It’s not as bad asthe Apple Vision Pro, but the infamousBloombergreport doesn’t have a lot of nice things to say about it. As sales slowed down, stocks mounted up, and Sony had to cut planned shipments. It was reported that the company sold less than 300k PSVR2 headsets in the first six weeks, but Sony proclaimed that it sold around 600k.

As you may imagine, low sales means not a lot of people have it. With the PSVR2 only being compatible with the PS5, it’s too niche and you’d need a very compelling reason to get one. People buying VR headsets tend to go for PC headsets over console-exclusive ones.
Maybe the new Xenomorph game will get people picking up the PSVR2 again, but fan reactions aren’t very promising.
There’s no doubt that people are excited about the game, but a significant portion don’t own VR headsets in general and aren’t ready to purchase one.
Some have hope that the studio might eventually release a non-VR version, similar to howIsolationhas both versions.

Another player exclaimed that a remaster ofIsolationwould’ve been the more viable option to experiment with the VR audience, rather than trying out a completely new game.
There are a few people excited to give the game a try, and the final sales will be higher than what one would assume, looking at Reddit sentiment. That being said, it remains to be seen if this will be commercially successful.
