Akai Katana (Red Katana 赤い刀) is abullet hellvertical shooter that was released in arcades in 2010. Since then, it has received an enhanced port for the Xbox 360 called Akai Katana Shin, with a new 16:9 aspect ratio that added a more intuitive and modern feel to its presentation. A third edition, called Zetsu Akai Katana, was released later, and that version had revised balance changes and more quality-of-life features compared to the original. Even though the two subsequent releases were reskins of the original Akai Katana, players still had to get used to different techniques when playing each of them.
Akai Katana has multiple tragic and dramatic scenarios that unfold in a fictional parallel world resembling Japan’s historical Taishō period (1912-1926). In the story, people have discovered the powerful blood swords — The Akai Katana — and their ability to sacrifice human souls for greater destructive powers. The carnage left in the wake of these swords has made some swordsmen, including the few awakened warriors, opposing the insanity of the Red Swords and the tyrannical empire that abuses them.

Each game has rich and unique visuals, in addition to training and score attack modes. Moreover, the collection features newly arranged music by Daisuke Matsumoto, and players can switch between the arrangements of the three editions at any time. Alimited editioncontaining the added soundtracks will also be available for purchase, in addition to many other preorder bonuses — wall tapestries, character artworks, acrylic chains, stickers, and many other physical goodies — depending on the store.
