DC Studios is now on the other side of the tumultuous time it had in the past couple of years. Warner Bros. appointed James Gunn and Peter Safran to reshape the deteriorating situation. And under the wing of the greats the franchise has now geared up to enter a new phase.

DC CEO James Gunn

The DCU (transitioned from DCEU), is overlooking an eventful year with 2025. Although this is a total revamp of the established series, some projects are just too good not to return. With trust in the old and hopes for the new, DC Studios has presented a promising lineup for the year. These projects are meant to replenish the roots DC has in its fans’ hearts.

The most hyped-upfilmin this lineup isSuperman. The return of the Last Son of Krypton has caused a lot of chatter. Even though Superman is the most sought-after DC superhero, the DCU lineup boasts far more exciting movies. Here are five films on the DC roster that seem much more entertaining thanSuperman.

Supergirl movie in the making

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow:July 07, 2025

James Gunnfirst announcedSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrowin January 2023. He also emphasized that this film will be a fresh and unprecedented take on the character. Supergirl is nothing like her male counterpart. Unlike Superman, she grew up on Krypton and watched the horrific chaos ruin her home planet in front of her eyes for fourteen years; eventually making her way to Earth. Talking about the film, Gunn said (viaScreenrant):

We see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl, who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.

DC’s Clayface

The film is an adaptation of Tom King’s 2022 DC comicbook series of same name, done by Ana Nogueira. It will be directed by Craig Gillespie and starsHouse of The Dragon‘s Milly Alcock in the titular role of Kara Zor-El and Jason Momoa will play Lobo.Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrowis the second feature title in the new era of DC Studios under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s supervision.

Clayface: July 16, 2025

Another of DCU’s main timeline movies isClayface. While much information is not available about the film as to where it will fit, the renowned horror writer and director Mike Flanagan developed the film after pitching it to DC. It is a possibility that Flanagan might helm the project as a director as well, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

The film will also offer a different take on Clayface as he will not be seen as his usual villainous self. Per the latest reports on the project, the producers were looking for a director as Flanagan is occupied elsewhere, and filming was set to begin in early 2025 for a September release next year. Notably, Alan Tudyk voiced the character in Creature Commandos, so he will likely reprise the role in this film as well.

The Authority: TBA

The Authoritywas announced in January 2023 as well. And while the film has not yet decided on or announced a release date, it has been confirmed that it will be a part of the revamped DC franchise’s first chapter titledGods $ Monsters.Gunn described the film as (viaCollider):

The Authority is very different kind of superhero story. They’re basically good intentions, but they think that the world is completely broken. And the only way to fix it is to take things into their own hands, whether that means killing people, destroying heads of state, changing governments, you know, whatever they want to do to make the world better, and we’ll see how that journey goes for them. But as I said earlier, there’s morally gray characters, which these are.

No writer or director has yet been attached to the film, which Gunn describes as one of his passion projects as the newly appointed DC co-head.

The Brave and the Bold: TBA

In their attempt to bring out the big guns, DC studio heads have also planned a return of the Caped Crusader in the first chapter of the revamped franchise. The Brave and the Boldwill relaunch Batman and have a new actor playing the vigilante of Gotham City, completely separate from Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne.

Every DCEU Movie Canceled Because of James Gunn’s DCU

Based on Grant Morrison’s 2006-2013 run of Batman in DC Comics, the film will introduce Damian Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s estranged son as a version of Robin. Andy Muschietti is set to direct the film. But most information about the film remains under wraps, only a little is known. But fans are extremely excited for this one.

Swamp Thing: TBA

Swamp Thingwill tell the horrifying origin story of the DC antihero. It was also one of the projects unveiled by the DC Studios co-heads in January of 2023.

Famed filmmaker James Mangold had expressed interest in making a movie under Gunn and Safran’s DC supervision and developed the script forSwamp Thing.Incidentally, Mangold will be directing the film as well. Despite revolving around slightly darker themes,Swamp Thingwill be connected with the other DCU films.

DC’s The Authority

With these films, the anticipation is high. And each movie has the potential to be a blockbuster. Given DC movies’ more than underwhelming reception past few years, these films must do well. However, there is no way to know what direction a high-stakes situation can go in. Only time will tell.
