Ever since James Gunn took over the DC franchise, there have been some major changes that included the exit of prominent DCEU stars like Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, and Ben Affleck. In addition, the director has also taken it upon himself to bring fresh narratives and characters to the fore in what would be a completely ‘new look’ DC.
While many marquee projects likeSuperman: Legacyhave already been given the green light, there have been talks about Gunn possibly trying to reboot the popular animated version ofJustice Leagueas well. While there are many prominent superheroes who are pivotal to this mighty team, there are a few characters whose presence may not be a defining factor in the reboot.
James Gunn Would Do Well To Drop These 3 Justice League Members
In the 2001Justice League: The Animated Series,Aquaman was a prominent member of the mighty squad in their quest to protect the world. But the superhero was always seen as an intimidating force even among the members, and has also been known to come in the way of some major decisions.
In addition, Aquaman’s primary powers lie below the vast ocean which also further highlights his weakness on land in comparison. Therefore, taking him out of the equation could be beneficial to the rest of the members who possess strength on land.

To elaborate further, an article inScreen Rantdetails the character’s biggest weakness which is considered equal to kryptonite for Superman. InBlack Manta#2, the villain is seen looking for a new metal which is deemed extremely dangerous to anyone with Atlantean DNA.
Apart from this weakness which could be exploited, Aquaman’s physicality also demands that he comes into contact with water at least once in an hour to be alive. All these factors could deter the other members in their fight.
While Cyborg has been rewritten to be a pioneering founder of the Justice League, the character is originally a pivotal member of theTeen Titans. The superhero though, wasn’t seen as someone who was front and center in the team even in Zack Snyder’s film.
While his robotic powers were impressive, it was seen as less potent than some of the other members including Superman and Wonder Woman. Alternatively, the deeper nuances of the character were explored in finer detail in 2003’sTeen Titansin which he is a young man going through struggles while growing up.
This also begs the question of a possible live-action film on the Teen Titans which would be the perfect vehicle for Cyborg to showcase his prowess and skills.
Hawkgirl has appeared in various incarnations in DC comics as Shiera Sanders Hall, Shayera Hol, and Kendra Saunders, all of whom have been prominent members of the Justice League. Known for her acute vision, superhuman strength, and healing abilities, the character is also adept at hand-to-hand combat.
But her continued presence as a member of the elite squad could be challenged by her grave destiny. As perCBR, the superhero is the victim of a curse brought on by her nemesis Hath-Set. According to the prophecy, her fate involves meeting and falling in love with Hawkman, only to meet her death and be reincarnated to undergo the same predicament again.
Therefore, the surety of Hawkgirl’s destiny which is certain death, would make her a liability to the Justice League team. In addition, despite having a seemingly impenetrable exterior, she doesn’t possess the cloak of invulnerability like Superman, Wonder Woman, or Martian Manhunter.
