Riot Gameshas officially announced its newest Riot Forge project - The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story, set for release in spring 2023.
The Mageseeker is a “2D hi-bit pixel action RPG” from Digital Sun, developer ofMoonlighter, a similar genre of game where the player plays as a dungeon-delving shopkeeper.
As the name implies, Mageseeker will cast the player in the role of theLeague of Legendscharacter Sylas as he seeks to enact his revenge against the Kingdom of Demacia.
For those unfamiliar with League of Legends lore, Demacia is a kingdom that prides itself on its strong law and order. It abhors magic in every form, outlawing it. The Mageseekers are an order tasked with hunting down mages in the Kingdom, but they themselves utilise magic to serve this purpose.
Sylas was previously a mageseeker before he was betrayed and imprisoned. After escaping captivity, Sylas was radicalised and became a revolutionary who seeks to topple Demacia’s monarchy and end the persecution of mages.

The Mageseeker will tell the story of Sylas as he gathers his band of rogue mages. As the game’s description specifically mentions “lead a revolution,” the premise will likely re-tell Sylas' existing lore.
The existence of Mageseeker had already been rumoured due to a leak by the South Korean game ratings committee (viaSports Illustrated).
Riot Forge has already published two games set in Runeterra, the rhythm platformer Hextech Mayhem and the role-playing game Ruined King. Besides Mageseeker, Riot Forge will also be publishing two other titles in 2023 - Convergence is a 2-D action platformer coming in the summer and Song of Nunu is an adventure game arriving this winter.
The Mageseeker doesn’t have a specific date yet, but Riot has stated it will release sometime in spring 2023.
