AWilly Wonkaevent in Glasgow, Scotland was reported to the police after angry attendees called it a scam. EntitledWilly’s Chocolate Experienceand hosted by the House of Illuminati, the show promised an immersive, interactive, and spectacular experience inside the famed chocolate factory. For $45 per ticket, all they got was a five-minute walkthrough in a seemingly old abandoned warehouse.
The scandal got even more absurd after the actor hired by the House of Illuminati to play Willy Wonka broke his silence on social media.

Paul Connell shared his side of the story regarding the disastrousWilly Wonkashowin Scotland. In a TikTok video, the comedian exposed everything (viaTwitter):
“The first red flag for me was when I was cast as Willy Wonka. Anyone who looks at me and thinks Willy Wonka and not Oompa Loompa is out of their mind.”
He went on to reveal that the script sent to him was created through AI technology, as well as the images used to advertise the event.
“I got cast as the part on the Thursday and was told that I needed to line the script for the Friday. The script was 15 pages monologue pretty much of AI-generated gibberish.”
Connell gave a sample of his speech which he memorized despite not understanding what it meant. He mused over the ridiculous script in the same video.
“There is a man who lives here. His name is not known, so we call him the unknown. The unknown is an evil chocolate maker who lives in the walls.”
The actor admitted feeling embarrassed that he was part of the event, though he hoped the attendees would get their money back soon.

After the organizing body, the House of Illuminati, canceled the event, attendees grew frustrated while children cried out with disappointment. Eva Stewart, one of the participants, toldBBC:
“It was basically advertised as this big massive Willy Wonka experience with optical illusions and big chocolate fountains and sweets. But when we got there, it was practically an abandoned, empty warehouse, with hardly anything in it.”

Yulia Burns, who brought her daughter Lydia to the event, went home feeling disheartened after they learned the show had been canceled.
“She [Lydia] loves the book, and she was really looking forward to getting there. When we arrived just a few people with kids were near the door. Everyone said that the event is canceled, but there wasn’t any notice at the door or on the website.”

TheHouse of Illuminatiposted a statement on their Facebook page to address the fiasco.
“Today has been a very stressful and frustrating day for many, and for that, we are truly sorry. Unfortunately, at the last minute, we were let down in many areas of our event and tried our best to continue on and push through, and now realize we probably should have canceled first thing this morning instead.”
The event was so horrible that attendees called the police to complain and demand full refunds.
