Exoprimalhas made a name for itself by blending PvEvP game types with horde shooter mechanics. Asour review of Exoprimalhas noted, Capcom’s dino-crazed third-person shooter has a few hiccups with its implementation. However, despite these problems, Exoprimal has still touched on a unique combination of elements that are a blast to play through.

Fans looking for more dinosaur-related games in their life, or more amazing horde shooter games to play with their friends, should try these games out. Each one shares a few mechanics and themes in common with Exoprimal, while still being incredible games in their own right.

10Ark: Survival Evolved

The best dinosaur game on the market,Ark: Survival Evolved, feels more like an MMORPG version ofValheimwith a healthy dose of dinosaurs (and other prehistoric creatures) injected into the formula for good measure. Similar to Valheim, players can build bases around the map and tame the local wildlife. But the biggest appeal to Ark is the interactions you get to have with dinosaurs.

While Exoprimal has you shooting hordes of dinosaurs, Ark: Survival Evolved allows you to work together with them to survive. With the remake ofArk: Survival Evolved scheduled for October, now is a great time to try out the original game before jumping into the new one.

Maybe you enjoy using the Exoprimal’s Dominator more than anything else and want a game where you get to play as the dinosaur for a change. If that’s the case, The Isle is exactly what you’re looking for. It’s an MMO survival game in early access where you get to play as 30 different dinosaurs. It plays similarly toRust, except instead of having to survive a bunch of angry humans running around with guns and rocks, you have to live through packs of pissed-off dinosaurs looking to have you as their next meal.

8Dino Trauma

If you love retro games and prefer seeing dinosaurs as the main antagonist, Dino Trauma is the game you should be playing. It’s an early access first-person shooter that’s styled after retro shooters like the originalQuakeandDoom. Thanks to those influences, Dino Trauma lives in the gray area between survival horror and action shooter. Its slower sections feel like they belong in a survival-horror game, but once the action starts, your character can blast through dinosaurs with a surprising amount of satisfying ease.

Players looking for a repeatable experience like Exoprimal’s individual runs can enjoy Dino Trauma’s Endless Mode, where you’ll have to survive through endless waves of dinosaurs trying to eat you.

While dinosaurs are cool, the Exosuits of Exoprimal just have an amazing aesthetic. If you’re also a fellow power armor admirer, then Vanquish will be right up your alley. Similar to Exoprimal, it’s a third-person shooter with fast-paced action mechanics, but instead of tearing through waves of dinosaurs, you’re fighting power-armored foes, tanks, and other sci-fi enemies.

But the movement in this game is its biggest allure. Vanquish feels more like a third-personTitanfallwith how smooth and beautiful its movement mechanics can be. Players can expect to fluidly glide through maps, while stylishly dispatching foes as they slide and bounce off walls at insane speeds.

6Risk of Rain 2

Let’s return to the realm of multiplayer games withRisk of Rain 2, one of the best roguelikes you can play with friends right now. Fans of Exoprimal looking for another horde shooter will find a home in this game through its strong, replayable PvE game modes.

The premise here is to fight your way through each stage and find the exit portal to move on to the next level. Along the way, you’ll be swamped in an ever-growing horde of enemies that will drop artifacts and XP to increase your character’s strength. The roguelike structure and memorable classes ensure that each run in Risk of Rain 2 is a unique experience.

5Remnant 2

Remnant 2is a third-person ARPG shooter that has players travel across several differentprocedurally generated worlds. Its heavy usage of procedural generation brings another level of variety to its endless runs. Players can be fighting twisted, fleshy monsters on the streets of what looks likeBloodborne’s Yarhnam in one world, then find themselves skulking around a derelict space station while being hunted by murderous androids in the next.

In comparison, Exoprimal’s later missions do a wonderful job of maintaining variety across each run, but Remnant’s mind-boggling amount of diversity between playthroughs makes it an amazing experience if you want a wild medley of themes to shoot through.

4Helldivers

With Helldivers 2 on the horizon, now is the perfect time to jump into Helldivers 1. Helldivers is a hilarious top-down, horde shooter you’re able to play with up to three other friends (4 players in total). The guns feel amazing to shoot, and its humor will bring a smile to anyone’s face.

Out of the games on this list, Helldivers stands out because of its delicate balance of sardonic comedy, difficult yet rewarding challenges, and its unique “spell casting” that is just plain addictive. Once you’ve summoned a mech from low orbit by furiously mashing arrow keys, you’ll start to wonder if this should just be the standard across all games.

3Vermintide 2

If Murasame and Zephyr were more up to your speed and you’d rather have a horde hack ‘n’ slash to play with friends, you’ll loveVermintide 2. Players take control of one of five heroes who each have unique skills to survive the unending tide of humanoid rats coming your way. While the hordes won’t reach Exoprimal’s level of density, it has a more visceral feel to its attacks that Exoprimal is missing.

While shooting attacks do exist in this game, its primary focus is on the clever usage of melee attacks and special abilities to hack, bash, and cut your way through the chittering hordes.

2Deeprock Galactic

Horde shooter fans will know this title well, becauseDeeprock Galacticis an unforgettable experience with friends. You and up to three friends can take control of several space dwarves as you descend onto different planets to excavate materials and ship them back to your space station. Why? For money of course! The alcohol bills and weapon upgrades aren’t going to pay themselves.

However, while you’re mining with your best buds, you’ll also be attacked by swarms of ravenous bugs. Players will have to balance between mining and swarm survival to make it off the planet alive and make a handsome profit.

1Earth Defense Force 5

With a unique PvE similar to Exoprimal and the cheesiness of 1950s horror movie dialogue, Earth Defense Force 5 is a fun horde shooter to relax to. Just like Exoprimal, it starts with extremely humble beginnings - fairly straightforward classes and easy-to-handle swarms of enemies. But as you start completing more missions and unlocking more weapons, the game takes a dramatic shift toward the ridiculous.

In fact, out of all the games on this list, only Earth Defense Force 5 can match the sheer horde density of Exoprimal while providing each player with an absurd amount of firepower. What’s even more hilarious is how it accomplishes all of this while making players fight giant insects, frog-people, and skyscraper-sized Kaiju.
